Malthusian Theory: Is Corona Virus a Man-Made Weapon to Control the Population?

Have you ever heard about Malthusian theory? I bet you haven’t, unless you studied it in school or heard about it somewhere. But I believe you’ve heard about Corona Virus, AKA, Covid-19. In this blog post, I’m going to tell you about Malthusian theory and how it is linked to Corona Virus. And finally, we’ll briefly discussed about the lessons learned.

But before talking about how these two terms, “Malthusian theory” and “Corona Virus” correlates, let talk about Malthusian theory first.

What is Malthusian Theory?

Malthusian Theory, otherwise known as “Malthusian theory of Population” is a theory published in the year 1798 by an English Cleric named “Thomas Robert Malthus” as an essay on the Principle of Population.

This theory is basically referred to as “Theory of Exponential Growth and Arithmetic Food Supply Growth”.

Notice that this theory is based on “Population” and “Food Supply”, let see why this great cleric published this theory and we’ll see how exactly it correlates with Corona Virus (COVID-19).

Explanation of Malthusian theory

Thomas Robert Malthus noticed something about human race, and that is ‘Increment in population’ and ‘Decrement in food supply’. Meaning that, as times goes on, there will be very shortage of food to eat. And this will lead to great famine which will kill millions of people, if the population is not controlled.

I remember during my secondary school days, there is something we learned in biology about ‘competition’ when it comes to ‘Feeding’.

Let me use fish as a good example.

If you throw a bait, let say an earthworm into a river (or sea), each of the fishes in the water (in the area) will struggle in other to be the first fish that’ll eat the earthworm… Fishes competes against themselves before they can have something to eat.

Although there are herbivorous fishes that feeds on plant. But still, they’ll need to compete before they can be satisfied. Why? Because there’s shortage of food.

Fishes eats and survives on what they see in their environment.

But how does this correlates with human being?

If you notice that our population is crazily increasing while food supply is decreasing, this creates competition among us.

For instance, prices of foodstuffs keep increasing and only those who can afford buying it will eat, while those who can’t afford to buy it, will have to starve.

In Africa, our population is increasing rapidly. For instance, in Nigeria, we have more than 204 million people here. In Lagos State, Nigeria, there are over 22 million people living there and that’s more than population of a country. For example, Netherlands (a country also known as Holland) population in Europe is not up to 20 million.

In China, the population according to World Bank and United States Census Bureau report more than One Billion people living in China as at 2018. In 2020, I’m sure it will be more than 1.5 billion people.

China is a country in Asia and the people living there are more than population of the whole Africa as a whole continent.

India population is competing with China as India has more than 1.3 billion people living there.

What am I trying to tell you?

As this population is rapidly increasing, more people are getting poorer and finds it difficult to eat good food because they can’t afford it and there’s no enough food to feed people.

Nigeria is the World Capital of Poverty because major part of the population can’t afford $1 per day.

And let me tell you that Nigeria is better than most African countries but we are the representative to describe how poverty is affecting AFRICA.

In India, they’re so poor that they beg for $5 jobs. And if you read their story, you’ll notice India is previously world capital of poverty until Nigeria took over.

This is the reason why there is something called Malthusian theory of population.

Let talk about they two key points in the theory;

  1. Population
  2. Food Supply
  • POPULATION

According to Thomas Malthusian theory, populations grows in Geometric progression or G.P in mathematics.

G.P is a sequence of numbers where each and corresponding terms are gotten by multiplying the previous one with a constant number known as common ratio.

For example, in the following term: 2, 6, 18, 54…… the next term will be what?

To get the next term, you need to find the common ratio, which is 3.

2 * 3 = 6 and 6 * 3 = 18 and so on. So, to get the next term after 54 will be 54 x 3, which is equal to 162.

That’s how population increases across the world.

For example, as at the time Nigeria got her independent in 1960, our population was 45,138,458.

After 10 years, that is in 1970, our population increased to 55,982,144. In another 10 years, 1980 the population was 73,423,633 and in 2000, the population was 122,283,850….

In 2010, the population increased to 158,503,197 and in 2020, the population is 206,139,589.

Do you noticed how it increased from 45 million+ to 206 million+ within 60 years!

And between 2010 to 2020, the population has increased with over 47 million people (within 10 years). And we’re expecting over 50 million to be added by 2030.

You see how the population grow faster and how it follows the Geometric Sequence?

Now let me talk about the food supply.

  • FOOD SUPPLY

According to Malthusian theory of population, food supply or production increases in Arithmetic Progression or A.P.

A.P is a sequence of numbers where each and corresponding ratio is gotten by differences between the terms.

For example, in the series of 2,5… can you guess the next number?

Remember in G.P, we would say 2 x 3 = 6 and the next number would be 6 x 3, which is 18. But we don’t calculate an Arithmetic Progression like that.

To get the next number in the series; 2, 5 …, we will need to find the common difference which is 3.

You don’t multiply but you add to get the next number.

Which will be 2 + 3 = 5, to get next number, you say 6+3 = 9 and so on.

Let bring back the population and food supply in comparison;

If the population increases as 2, 6, 18, 54 etc., the food production will increase as 2, 5, 8, 11, 14 etc.

Notice that by the time we reach 5th term, population will be 162 will food will be 14.

Meaning that 162 people will have to share or compete on food meant for 14 people!

That’s bad right?

Don’t worry, you’ll soon see how Malthusian theory correlate with Corona Virus.

Thomas Malthus didn’t only postulate and published theory about population and food supply but he wrote about possible (and may be “only”) solution to avoid famine or shortage of food.

Malthusian theory stated that, there’s need to control the population to avoid many people dying from shortage of food. He then stated that this phenomenon can be controlled in form of “Natural or Positive Checks” and “Preventive Checks”.

And these “checks” or control will lead to something called Malthusian Catastrophe which will control the population to normal or sustainable level.

But let talk about these two checks;

Two Ways of Controlling the Population – According to Malthusian Theory of Population

  1. Natural or Positive Checks

Malthusian theory of population stated that natural forces is capable of correcting the imbalance between population growth and food production.

And these natural forces can be in form of natural disasters such as hurricane, earthquake, flooding, fire outbreak, War etc. when these things happened, they will reduce the population growth.

Remember that the preventions will leads to Malthusian Catastrophe…

Okay, let talk about Preventive Checks

  1. Preventive Checks

Malthusian theory of population suggested that preventive measures can also be adopted in other to control and contain the population growth with respect to food supply.

He said that prevention measures like celibacy (to avoid marriage and having sex), family planning, and late marriage.

Now, how does Malthusian Theory Correlates with Corona Virus?

Although Malthusian theory of population was criticized because there’s rapid advancement in technology, which has makes food processing master and easier.

But according to research, more people are getting poorer.

According to World Bank, those who are living in extreme poverty can’t afford $1.90 per day.

In 2016, about 734 million or 10% of world population are extremely poor – that’s they can’t afford a dollar per day. And in extensive research, the country with the amount of people living in extreme poverty is Nigeria with over 86 million in 2015 who can’t afford $1 and by 2020, I’m sure the amount would have increased to 100 million people (I will update this later when the latest number is published by the United Nations).

Those who go below $1.90 per day are also poor and those who are below $10 are poor.

Now, let see this stat by the World Bank as at 2015;

World Extreme Poverty Graph
World Extreme Poverty Graph

The rate of people who are extremely poor are 734 million people (1 in every 10 people). Half of these people living in extreme poverty lives in China and India.

And to control this population according to Malthusian theory, something needs to be done.

Government has mandated family planning in countries like CHINA and INDIA in order to reduce the population. But yet, China and India are still the first two most populated countries in the world with half of the poorest people living in the world.

Poverty rate will decrease economic growth.

That’s why it is suspected that “Corona Virus” is a man-made weapon used to control the world population. And if you notice, Corona Virus originated from China, the world most populated country with high amounts of people living in extreme poverty.

Meaning that, some powerful people are behind this pandemic. I can’t say if they’re helping the world by reducing the population because lot of lives has been lost in the process.

But all the way, Malthusian Theory is proved to be true with this pandemic, COVID-19. Because this pandemic is not from God, it is man-made!

If they want to use this pandemic to control the world population, then we should expect this to hit India and Africa just like it happened in China.

Currently, over 1 million people have been killed by this virus, with most in China, Italy, Spain and the United States.

Lesson learned from Malthusian Theory of Population in Correlation to Corona Virus?

  • Many people believed that Corona Virus is from God, as a way of punishing the wicked ones. But this is NOT true. Corona Virus is man-made weapon
  • They say there’s currently no vaccine for corona virus. If this virus is man-made, then there is vaccine but they’re not ready to release it.
  • Corona Virus will not end the world, it is just a weapon to control the world.
  • They may want to end this pandemic but it’s out of control
  • This pandemic will control the population to an extend but the population will spike up again

Rounding Off: Malthusian Theory of Population and Corona Virus

This is an opinion written on basis of Malthusian theory.

To learn more about this theory, you can google search about it and you’ll learn a lot. Also, all statistics are taken from Wikipedia according to direct reports from the United Nations/World Bank.

I don’t mention the name of anybody behind this corona virus pandemic and I do not know who are they. The government of all countries affected are trying to deal with this virus except where it is turned to COVID-419.

List of BIC or SWIFT Codes of Nigerian Banks – for International Money Transfer

Have you ever been asked to input your Nigerian Banks’ Swift Code when you’re trying to make a payment with your card or want to receive some funds through wire or international money transfer? If yes, and that’s why you’re here, I will show you all the SWIFT codes of Nigerian Banks as it is in 2020.

If you’ve been trying to receive some money through “international transfer” to your local bank in Nigeria from overseas countries like the USA, Holland, etc., you’ll be required to enter IBAN, Name, Name of your Bank, Address, Swift code, and other personal data before the transaction can be successfully processed.

Unlike inter-bank transactions in Nigeria where you only need to give your Name, Bank Name, and Account Number to the person hoping to send you money and you’re good to go. Without this swift code, you won’t be able to receive your money at your local bank in Nigeria.

But you may be asking that…

What is a Swift Code

First, SWIFT is an abbreviation for ‘Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication’.

From the acronym, a SWIFT code is a worldwide accepted unique form of identification to identify and locate a bank or a financial institution. This enables all banks in the world to exchange transactions without any problem.

No wonder, the SWIFT code is also referred to as BIC

BIC is also an abbreviation that stands for ‘Business Identifier Code’

In my own experience, it’s either you’re asked for a SWIFT code or BIC. So, always remember that SWIFT CODE and BIC are the same codes that I will be showing you (Nigerian Banks’ Swift Codes or BIC).

Also, note that the SWIFT code or BIC is used to identify the headquarters of your bank. If they need to identify your bank’s branch (that you’re using exactly), they’ll ask for your bank sorting code instead which is just 6 characters which are figures.

SWIFT Code or BIC is usually 8 or 11 characters. And if it’s 8, it identifies the headquarters but if it’s 11 characters, it identifies the branch. But all Swift codes of Nigerian Banks are just 8 characters, meaning that it will identify the headquarters of your bank.

You may also want to know how they get these SWIFT codes for Nigerian Banks right? Okay, I’ll tell you.

BIC or Swift codes of Nigerian Banks are just like other banks or financial institutions in the world. Here is how they’re gotten;

How SWIFT Codes or BIC Are Formed

Note the first 8 characters long and then the next 3 characters. I will be using the GT bank swift code (GTBINGLA) as a specimen for you to understand better;

  • 4 characters that come FIRST stand for BANK Code which are letters (e.g. GTBI)
  • 2 characters that come NEXT stand for country code (for Nigeria, it is NG)
  • The NEXT 2 characters stand for the Location code of the headquarters Bank (for GT, it is Lagos, so the Location code is LA)

That’s how Guaranty Trust Bank got its own Swift code, which is GTBI + NG + LA which is equal to GTBINLA.

But what if you see 11 characters long swift code, What do the last 3 characters stand for?

  • The LAST 3 characters stand for Branch code.

But in most cases, only the 8 characters will be good especially if you’re using your Nigerian Bank Swift Code.

Note that ‘NGLA’ comes last in all swift codes of Nigerian Banks because all head offices of banks in Nigeria are located in LAGOS, Nigeria except Stanbic IBTC.

Now, let’s talk about what you’re here to check – all BIC or Swift codes of Nigerian Banks;

All SWIFT Codes of Nigerian Banks

Here are the SWIFT codes for all Nigerian Banks in ascending order:

  1. Access Bank SWIFT Code – ABNGNGLA
  2. Central Bank of Nigeria SWIFT Code – CBNINGLA
  3. CITI Bank SWIFT Code – CITINGLA
  4. Diamond Bank SWIFT Code – DBLNNGLA
  5. ECO Bank SWIFT Code – ECOCNGLA
  6. Equitorial Bank SWIFT Code – EQUTNGLA
  7. First Bank of Nigeria SWIFT Code – FBNINGLA
  8. First City Monument Bank (FCMB) SWIFT Code– FCMBNGLA
  9. Fidelity Bank of Nigeria SWIFT Code – FIDTNGLA
  10. Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) SWIFT Code – GTBINGLA
  11. Heritage Bank SWIFT Code – HBCLNGLA
  12. Unity Bank SWIFT Code – ICITNGLA
  13. Jaiz Bank SWIFT Code – JAIZNGLA
  14. Polaris Bank SWIFT Code – PRDTNGLA

Nobody would have thought that production of hand sanitizer business can become one of the most lucrative business ideas in Nigeria. After the Corona Virus epidemic hit the world, there has been greater demand for hand sanitizers, in other to fight bacteria.

But sadly, Nigeria imports hand sanitizers like other goods we import from China. But during Corona Virus (COVID-19), hand sanitizer became so scarce across the world. And the little we have left in Nigeria was sold at very expensive price because of its scarcity.

Later on, smart Nigerians started thinking of a way to produce the hand sanitizers locally and many were left surprised when they realized how simple it is to make an effective hand sanitizer.

In this blog post, I will tell you step-by-step guide to start hand-sanitizer production business in Nigeria and make some profits. And this is not about starting locally, I’m going to teach you about branding your products and selling them to the right consumers.

Before I jump on this, let quickly talk about the use of hand sanitizer.

Uses of Hand Sanitizer

According to World Health Organization (WHO) and Center for Disease Control (CDC), using of Hand Sanitizer made with pure alcohol is a good to prevent spreading of infectious diseases (or germs). Mostly, Hand Sanitizer kills “bacteria” whenever they’re in contact.

But don’t be deceived, using hand sanitizer doesn’t kill or cure Corona Virus (Covid-19). And yet, it’s advisable to use hand sanitizer to rub your hands from time to time in order to kill that micro-organisms that are ready to bless you with disease.

You may be asking…

Is Hand Sanitizer Production Business lucrative in Nigeria?

Yes, it is lucrative if done the right way and with good “packaging”.

Before the Covid-19 or Ebola outbreak, hand sanitizer has been in existence but only few people use it. When Corona Virus came with full speed and force, a lot of Nigerians started growing interest in using hand sanitizer to rub their palms, just you know… (lol)

I know even after Corona Virus is dealt with, hand sanitizer will still become one of the most sort after commodity in chemists or markets.

Hence and again, start a hand sanitizer production business in Nigeria is lucrative and will continue to be, as long as we all yearn for good personal hygiene.

So, how do you start?

So, let talk about the recipe first:

Ingredients to Make Hand Sanitizer in Nigeria (and Anywhere)

  • 1 cup of rubbing alcohol or 91% isopropyl alcohol
  • ½ cup of Aloe Vera gel
  • Essential oils like Tea tree or eucalyptus oil (15 drops for this mixture)

Functions of each ingredients involved to make hand sanitizer

  • Alcohol: Generally, alcohol is used for “sterilizing” and at the same time, as drying agent before its chemical compound are volatile in nature, it dries quickly
  • Aloe Vera: This natural plant has been saving life, it’s used to make most creams, medicinal drinks and as body care products. It is to smoothen rashes either outside or inside the body.
  • Essential Oils like Tea Tree: They’re generally antibacterial and they’re use in making sanitizers.

So, these are the ingredients you need to make hand sanitizer. But let me tell you that only “Aloe Vera” and “Alcohol” are needed mostly. In some cases where you cannot find any essential oil, it is advisable to make the alcohol 60% of the mixture (while the aloe vera gel should be 40%)

I trust you can get alcohol and aloe vera.

So, let make the hand sanitizer if you’ve gotten your ingredients.

How to make hand sanitizer in Nigeria

  • Add your aloe vera gel

So, how do you package your hand sanitizer before selling in Nigeria?

  • The first approach is to find a local company that sells bottle in bulk. There are lot of them, you just need to do your research. It doesn’t cost too much because you’re buying in bulk and, you’re buying small sizes (of 30ml).
  • After getting your bottles, look for a graphic designer to make label for you, with the name of your business, and some verbiage about your hand sanitizer. Don’t forget to add your contact phone number and address in the label.

How to Get International Passport in Nigeria – w/ Cost and Personal Experience

You’re thinking of applying for e-Passport or the international passport in Nigeria and you don’t know the easiest way to get through it, you have been asking, surfing the internet for the best answer until you land here, right?

That’s quite great! If you’ve checked one of the blog posts on the google first page, you’ll realized that the procedure and requirements written there seems to be too much and impossible for you to get.

For instance, one of the requirements says you need to get a letter from your state governor or a high official person in your town…. Well, I didn’t get any letter from anybody before I applied and got my international passport in Nigeria.

So here, I’m going to tell you the exact step-by-step guide I used to get the Nigeria’s International Passport (e-Passport), the cost and the requirements.

Before proceeding, let me say something about the Nigerian International Passport, e-Passport;

About the International Passport in Nigeria

The international passport in Nigeria is an official document issued by the federal government of Nigeria through one of her agencies, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), headed by the minister of Interior.

The Nigeria’s International Passport is one of the official documents that proves you’re a Nigerian. Although we have the National Identification Number (NIN) on our National ID card, the Voters Identification Number (VIN) on our voters’ card etc., but this e-passport or the International Passport in Nigeria stands out.

Apart from the fact that this document can prove your national identity (anywhere in the world), you can also use this passport to travel to some African countries, if you’re thinking of going outside Africa’s continent, you’ll need to have your Nigeria’s International Passport, VISA and buy ticket for you to be able to travel the world!

But how can you apply for this International Passport in Nigeria and get the paper processed very fast? The first anti-dote is to have all the requirements in place, so what are the requirements?

Requirements to Get the International Passport in Nigeria

I’m going to tell the official requirements according to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) and then, tell you what I personally took to their office here in Osun State, Nigeria.

Here are they – What I prepared;

  • My National ID card (the slip though)
  • Birth certificate
  • Court affidavit (because I changed my names, so the name on the National ID card is different from the name on the birth certificate, but I have the court affidavit to valid all my documents)
  • Passport photograph – Note that the size required to be used in international passport is quite different from the normal one you can use in bank or anywhere. So, I took another passport photograph right opposite the NIS office.
  • Utility Bill – just in case they want to validate my address, but it was useless then.
  • I even went along with my registered business name’ certificate, also it was useless.

So, those are what I prepared that made me to be enrolled and captured for the Nigerian international passport that day.

Let talk about the fee, I know you would have been asking yourself that how much does it cost to get the international passport in Nigeria?

Okay, I’m also going to tell you the official price and how much I paid;

The Cost of Getting the International Passport in Nigeria

The official cost of getting the international passport in Nigeria is now N70,000 for 64-pages which will last for 10 years and N35,000 for same 64-pages which will last for 5 years. For the 32-pages, it cost N25,000 which will last for 5 years.

To understand it better, here are the cost of international passport in Nigeria;

  • N70,000 for 64-pages standard passport with 10 years validity
  • N35,000 for 64-pages standard passport with 5 years validity
  • N25,000 for 32-pages standard passport with 5 years validity.

But personally, I applied for the 32-papers (5 years validity) and I paid N30,000. Other money spent like the one I used to take passport photograph, the transport fare and other tips are not included.

The agent collected N30,000 from me before he enrolled me for the international passport and after paying the agent, I didn’t give a dime to anybody! I don’t know if the agent paid the Nigeria Immigration Service or not, all I know is that I wasn’t questioned by the officers in charge of capturing data.

So, after getting my requirements and money in place, I boarded a cab to the Nigeria Immigration Office, Osun State branch in Osogbo – the state capital.

I didn’t know where the office is situated, so I searched on Google Map and I got an idea of the route, before I miss my way. My point here is that, you should be sure of where you’re going before leaving your house.

You can search on google like; ‘Nigeria Immigration Office + in + Your State’. For example, ‘Nigeria Immigration Office in Abia State’. From that, you can simply get the idea of where you’re going because google map will tell you the streets along the road and the landmarks.

If you’re in Osun State and you’re thinking of getting your international passport in Osogbo, here is how I got to the office;

I boarded a cab to Osogbo garage and from there to the NIS office along Gbongan road. The Nigeria Immigration office in Osogbo, Osun State is very close to SUBEB office, around the Nursing house, the Osun State’s Surveyors’ office and other important places are around. But you can use the SUBEB office and Osun state Nursing house as your landmark to describe where you’re going to.

Here is how to get your international passport when applying online;

How to Apply Online for an International Passport in Nigeria:

  • Visit the NigerianImmigration Services portal or click this link https://portal.immigration.gov.ng/passport/epassport
  • Select the passport For now, the default type which is “Standard” is what you’re going to choose.
  • Select processing country.
  • Fill and Complete application form.
  • Upload scanned copies of required documents.
  • Select preferred payment method which can through using your ATM card.
  • After successful payment, an application ID and a reference number will be given to you
  • Proceed to print out Guarantor’s form and have it certified
  • Submit the completed application form with other needed document in person at National Immigration or passport office around you
  • After submitting the forms yourself at the office, you’ll be enrolled for biometrics (otherwise known as “capturing”)
  • After completing your biometrics, you’ll be told to come back at a given day for your international passport.

So, that’s how to apply online for international passport in Nigeria. But let me tell you how I did my own…

So, how did I get my international passport in Nigeria?

Let me explain how I did it and then, I will explain other method to get your international passport in Nigeria (according to the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS).

How to Get Your International Passport in Nigeria using Offline Method (exactly what I did)

I didn’t use the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) portal but I went to their office myself (the offline method).

NOTE: I will also advice you do this, you can apply online as some folks said applying online will lets you get your international passport faster. But make sure you visit their office.

So, here is how to apply for international passport in Nigeria using offline method;

·       Go the NIS Office in your state

After gotten to the office, I didn’t enter immediately as I noticed a lot of people outside and some kiosks with computers in them.

SO, I approached one of the men in the kiosk who happened to be a photographer and one of the agents working ‘outside’ the office. I asked him which office should I go to register for the Nigeria’s international passport.

Immediately, he asked me to wait for a while…

I waited for few minutes and he came back to me that, ‘they’ can enroll me for capturing in that same kiosk and they’ll direct me to the right person who will get me registered.

At this junction, I felt like leaving the place immediately because I don’t want to be scammed. But to my surprise, some NIS officers came to the same kiosk to request for registration form from that man (because those officers also have gotten their own client ‘like me’ who need to get their own international passport).

·       I used an Agent

Then, I believed that these people are legit before of what I saw and perceived that day.

NOTE: you need to be very careful before you trust any random person to be an agent, even if you see anybody wearing the Nigeria Immigration uniform and he/she tell you to bring money for faster enrolment and capturing, don’t trust that person because we’re in Nigeria, anything can happen.

But if you’re lucky to see a smart and trusted agent or NIS officer, kindly go for them.

Back to how I got my international passport.

·       Pay the fee

So, the man told me the cost of getting my international passport during that period is N30,000 – although, I prepared N35,000 but I tried negotiating with the agent to reduced it to N25,000 or something below that N30k but he said that’s the normal price (30k) even if I talked to those officer to help me.

Without wasting time, I agreed. And I asked him how are we going to start?

·       Submit the Documents with you

He told me to bring my National ID card and birth certificate, I gave them to him with my affidavit.

But remember I said the names on my National ID card and Birth certificate is quite different but the court affidavit validates all data to be correct.

The man looked at it and returned the Birth certificate and the affidavit back to me, he said that the difference in names might create confusion and disturbed my capturing to be successful.

I asked, what about the other requirements asked, such as the letters and other stuffs demanded by the NIS before getting an international passport in Nigeria? He said I shouldn’t worry about that. But if I have them, I can give them to him and he’ll add them.

I said ‘NO’ because I didn’t even have those stuffs and he immediately proceed the registration form, generated some slips and I signed on them.

He later told one of his staff to take me inside the Nigeria Immigration office and meet a certain officer, that officer was asked to submit my photocopied documents and generated slips to the right office, which he did. And I was asked to wait till it’s my turn for capturing.

·       BIOMETRICS: Your Data Will Be Captured by the Nigeria Immigration Service

I got to the NIS office by 10:20am on Monday but before It’s my turn to be captured, it’s already after 4:00pm – meaning that I waited for good 6 hours!

NOTE: make sure you’re fully prepared, because a lot of people are trying to get their Nigeria International Passport every day. So, you must determine to sacrifice that say to get your own passport.

You know that ‘this country don tire peson sef’ but not everybody is travelling out of the country but some people are trying to get an official document that they use to verify what they’ve applied for, such as PayPal, Payoneer and so on.

So, that’s how I was able to registered and got my international passport in Nigeria without taking those bunch of requirements to them.

·       Finally, Get your International Passport

But you may want to know when I finally got the international passport right? Here is what you need to know;

How Long Does It Take to Get the International Passport in Nigeria?

Well, according to the Nigeria Immigration service, NIS, it should take nothing more than 2-weeks (or 14 days) to get your international passport in Nigeria.

That’s what they also told me.

They even said If I’m lucky to meet and tip a high-ranking officer, I can get it within a week because some people do it get within 48 hours.

You know the country we are living in, Nigeria na.

But to be sincere with you, I got my international passport after 3 months!

So, don’t fall for the scam that you’ll get it within 2 weeks, if care is not taken, you can get it after 6 months.

But well, let agreed that you can get your international passport in Nigeria within 2 weeks provided you’re lucky.

So, that’s it on getting international passport in Nigeria – and other information

Note that I shared my personal experience here, to show you exactly how I got mine. But that doesn’t mean it’s going to work for you the same way it worked for me, that’s why I also talk about the how the Nigeria Immigration Service said you can get international passport in Nigeria.

Don’t forget that your National ID card (I mean the slip given to you by the NIMC) is very important as well, don’t forget to take it along.

To be successful, you must know your market, must develop a business plan to give you direction & to secure funding, must legalize your business, must invest in effective marketing, and must remember to be patient & persistent.

Now, let talk about these pro-tips;

5 Pro-tips to Start Junk Hauling Business in Nigeria

Tip 1 – Conduct Market Research

Market research is the first logical step before starting any business. To make informed decisions about your junk hauling business in Nigeria, ask yourselves the following questions:

  • What is your Target Market?

Which geographical area are you going to serve? What type of junk will you collect? What kind of junk collection is most profitable and suitable for a new business?

For instance, you may focus on consumer/home junk, office junk, or industrial junk. Most established businesses offer all of these services, but since you are a beginner and have limited resources, figure out which type of junk will be most profitable in the area you plan to serve.

  • Determine the Cost of Operations

Develop an estimation of the amount of money it will cost you to start the business. Think in terms of office space, vehicle, gear, equipment, utility bills, and workers.

  • Determine Estimated Revenue

How much can you make from the junk hauling business in Nigeria? Develop an accurate, projected revenue. You can do so by asking industry specialists, interviewing people already working in the industry, or by taking a job in a junk hauling business in your city.

  • Analyze the Competition

It is vital to know your competition. Determine the number of international, national, or local junk hauling companies operating in your area of interest. What services are they offering? What is their pricing strategy? Do they have a competitive advantage? What target market are they serving? Do they have a loyal clientele?

Knowing the answer to these questions will help you establish a unique brand identity. It will also give you insight into market needs, gaps, and the opportunity to attract consumers to your business.

  • Analyze Barriers to Entry

Are there any hurdles in starting the business? For instance, it may be difficult to obtain local, state, or federal permits for a junk hauling business in Nigeria.

  • Franchise Vs. New Business

Analyze the market to determine whether it is more profitable to purchase a franchise license or to start a business of your own from scratch. Create a pros and cons list to analyze your options and make an informed choice.

  • Pricing Strategy: How Much Will You Charge?

If you decide to start your own business, it is imperative to determine a consistent and competitive pricing strategy. In most cases, new businessmen change prices randomly from one job to the next.

A consistent pricing strategy makes you look professional and increases business profitability.

Tip 2: Prepare a Business Plan

A business plan is a formal document that contains details about your business and business strategy. A business plan includes the name and purpose of the business, business strategy, financial strategy, marketing strategy, and exit strategy (expansion plans). It will not only guide your actions but will also help you attract investors and funding.

If you go to a bank for loan, hedge fund, or any organization that gives money to startups, they will ask to see your business plan to determine whether it is worth it.

Tip 3: Legalize Your Business

It’s essential to register your business as a separate legal entity. Firstly, it is important because you will need to obtain licenses and permits for your business, and that cannot happen unless you have a registered company.

The second reason to form a business entity is to make sure that it is separate from your personal finances. God forbid if your company goes belly up, it won’t make you personally liable to pay off business debts and loan. You can file bankruptcy top avoid paying out of pocket.

Another reason to register your business separately is tax policy; the tax for companies is separate from personal tax. If you don’t register your business, it can be contused as tax evasion, which is a punishable offense. Moreover, small and micro businesses are often given tax concessions, which can actually be more feasible financially.

You don’t necessarily need to setup your own junk hauling business. In fact, you can partner up with other junk hauling and dumpster business and get yourself up and running right of the bat. Fortunately, you can rent a dumpster from a company and upsell it to your customer. There are a lot of other creative methods you can use.

Here is what you need to do to legalize your business:

  • Register Your Business as a Separate Legal Entity

There are several business structures for small businesses, including Sole Proprietorship, Partnerships, Limited Liability Company (LLC), and Corporation, etc.

Here is a guide to register your business with CAC in Nigeria…

  • Register for Taxes

Once your business is officially registered, you need to file an Employer Identification Number (EIN) or Federal Tax Identification Number (FTIN) from the IRS.

The EIN number is like a social security number for your business. It is essential because, without an EIN, you cannot open a business bank account, hire employees, and keep your business separate from your personal finances.

You can register for an EIN online, via telephone or email for free.

  • Obtain Permits and Licenses

You must file for local, state, or federal permits and licenses required to operate a junk hauling business in Nigeria. Every state and locality have their own requirements, therefore check with the local SBA to get information about the permits and licenses you will require to operate your business.

If you run your business without a license or a permit, you will be liable to hefty fines and even jail time.

  • Create a Business Account

Open a business bank account to manage the flow of expenses and income. A business bank account is a reliable method to track your company’s finances. It is essential for audit purposes, as well.

  • Purchase Business Insurance

Purchase business insurance as a safeguard. If you hire employees, you will be legally required to purchase worker’s compensation insurance. Check here for the top 10 insurance companies in Nigeria.

  • Implement Business Accounting Practices

Manage your company’s business accounts to keep an accurate record of all expenses and incomes. Small Business Association, the US Chamber, and the local clerk’s office will have guides that you can follow to maintain your accounting books. You may hire a professional consultant to manage your books as well.

Keeping a detailed account of the financial activity of your business will be useful when filing for tax.

Tip 4: Invest in Marketing

No business can begin and survive without effective marketing today. To start a successful business, you need to invest in marketing. It is understandable that a startup will not have a huge marketing budget. You must determine your marketing budget (however small) and the marketing channels that will be most effective for your target market within your resource constraints.

Luckily, it does not take a lot of money to run an ad in the local newspaper or radio. You can even purchase a spot in the local yellow book for an affordable price. You can buy billboard space, print flyers, or advertise your business on city buses to get the word out.

Marketing practices will keep your business relevant and thriving. Here is what you should do:

  • Build Brand Identity

What benefits does your brand offer its consumers? Think about characteristics like cost leadership or differentiation. Highlight the values of your company; for example, sustainable and ethical, etc.

A brand is like a person that consumers want to have a relationship with. If you have a clear brand identity, you are more likely to attract consumers and keep a long-lasting relationship with them.

  • Build Brand Recognition

Make your brand known; When consumers know that your business exists, they are more likely to reach out. Increase brand awareness and recognition by positing advertisements and establishing a local presence.

  • Create an Online Presence

Most people search for businesses online. How many times have you searched google for the nearest restaurant or the best shoe shop in town?

Maintain a professional website and social media handles (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, & YouTube, etc.).

Note: We can help you build a website and manage all your digital marketing. Check our agency website or contact me to get quote.

  • Increase Your Online Ranking

When people search google for a junk haul business, the name of your company must come on the first page.

Let’s be real, no one clicks on the second page ever. We always check out the first 5 or 6 websites on the google search page.

Therefore, you must maintain an online presence so that the name of your business always comes on the first page.

  • Focus on Customer Relationship Management

Repeat customers are your best bet for succeeding in any business. Therefore, you should offer excellent customer service to keep your clients happy. A happy client is more likely to avail your services again. Moreover, satisfied clients give great reviews to their friends and family and encourage them to use your service as well.

Tip 5: Be Persistent and Patient

Rome was not built in a day; your business won’t be either! Keep in mind that you will probably not start making profits in the first few months. Don’t get frustrated, keep working hard, and your persistence will pay you premium once your business takes off!

… That’s it – How to Start Junk Hauling Business in Nigeria

I know you might be thinking that this business is too dirty but let me tell you that if you want to make it in Nigeria (and anywhere in the world), you need to change how you view opportunities in Nigeria.

Junk hauling business in Nigeria is a golden opportunity for you, no matter who are; either you’re a student, graduate, even if you’re a housewife.

And one thing is that you have high edge to make money with this business because the government who claimed to be responsible for waste management in Nigeria, are not functioning to the core.

5 Smart Ways to Save Money in Nigeria – Save & Earn Money Passively

0

If you’ve been looking for smart ways to save money in Nigeria, then you’re welcome to the right page. Here in this blog post, I will show you different methods I’ve personally been using to discipline myself when it comes to saving money.

I don’t know the reason why you’re embarking on this, but either you’re saving money for your next vacation, you’re about to start a business, for emergency purpose or any other reason(s), I’m sure if you take my simple recommendations here seriously, you’ll be glad you did.

Saving money in Nigeria has been one of the things we practice in our culture. I can remember when I was in primary school, we do save part of our money with a trusted pupil in our class. We do this for different reasons, either to buy something (like wall-clock) or buy a gift for our favorite class-teacher. Then, we also save for our personal use, we can save N10 denominations till it reach certain amount we need.

Also, our parents do the same thing. I can remember it’s called “Ajo” in Yoruba language. That’s a system where a group of people save money with someone they trust. They collect this money contributed according to how their names are aligned in the list.

All down to this modern age, we save money in Nigeria by simply depositing it in bank, which has been great, because it was the safest ways to save money in Nigeria until there’s advancement in technology.

Yes, I don’t really recommend saving money in bank these days because of some arrant fees the bank will be deducting until they deduct N5,000 to N3995.80!

That means both bank and the traditional ways to save money in Nigeria is NOT recommended by me. You might be thinking like; ‘hey, which way are we going to use again?’. Well, that’s why you’re here.

But before I list those ways, let me tell you that: I’m not against using either any of the Banks in Nigeria or the traditional methods like ‘Piggybank or Ajo’ to save money in Nigeria.

Let me tell my reasons for not recommending them;

Why Banks & Other Traditional Methods Are Not ‘Okay’ to Save Money in Nigeria

  • The Arrant Charges: The first reason why Banks are not recommended to save your money is because part of the money you’re saving (in your mind) will be deducts gradually till you realized that it’s better to save the money under your carpet instead of depositing it in bank.

Also, if you’re saving money with someone (in traditional method), the person will collect some fee from you. In my area, it’s actually the first amount you save and you may also need to pay for drift card.

  • Temptation: You’re saving money in bank or with someone and you need something that’s not really useful to you (maybe like luxurious clothes, shoes or food), sometimes, it might be because your friends are doing something and you want to do it also, it will be easier for you to go and withdraw all your money in bank or go the person helping you to keep your money and collect your life-savings…

… at the end of the day, you’ll realized temptation has taken over you!

  • Fraud: What if someone wire away all the money in bank or you’re tricked until you personally send your money to a fraudster? Yes, there are cases of cyber scams in Nigeria and they’ve even did it to a minster of the federation, so don’t think you’re special or safe.

When it comes to the traditional method, the person can easily run away or pretend as if the money is stolen etc.

  • Your money is just sleeping: After the bank might have taken their charges or the ‘Alajo’ the person whom you’re saving your money with, have taken his or her fee, you’ll collect the exact amount you save. Meaning, the money is sleeping instead of working for you while you’re saving it.

Now, let me show you the smart ways to save money in Nigeria and compare it with what you’ve read above.

Top Passive Ways to Save Money in Nigeria

Here are the smart ways of saving money in Nigeria;

1.     Use Digital ‘Piggybank’ Like PiggyVest

If you’ve been using piggybank or ‘kolo’ in your house, how are you coping with temptation and securing it from being altered or stolen by someone else?

Cryptocurrency is charging millions of entrepreneurs to billionaires, that’s if you’re a smart trader.

Buying and keeping Bitcoin is another smart way to save money in Nigeria, because, BTC rises.

Let say you buy a bitcoin worth N20,000 today just to save that N20k, bitcoin can rise and your 20k worth of BTC can turn to N50,000!

I always buy bitcoin whenever I want to save money.

Although, there are many places you can buy bitcoin (and other cryptos) in Nigeria, but I’m using Luno because it’s safe and it’s 100% best for Nigerians.

3.     Treasury Bills

One of the smartest ways those rich businessmen invest and save their money in Nigeria is through Treasury bills. And to God be the glory, this unique investment opportunity is open for everybody in Nigeria.

This is how it work;

You go to your bank that you want to invest in T-Bills and you’ll be given a form to fill. The minimum days you can invest in T-Bills is 90-days (or 3 months) and you’re going to earn interest in the money you invested with.

Treasuring Bills in Nigeria is very profitable and will help you guard your money without any deduction from back… If you want to know, check the recommended post below;

RECOMMENDED: How to Invest in Treasury Bills in Nigeria

Start T-Bills as one of the methods you save money in Nigeria.

4.     Invest in Real Estate

The best investment in the world is ‘Real Estate Investment’.

2/3 of richest people in the world are in one way into real estate business. An example is Donald Trump, the President of United States of America.

Do you know why Real Estate is one of my most recommended ways to save money in Nigeria? It’s simply because it makes your value (or money) to ‘appreciates’.

Let say you have the sum of N500,000 and you want to save it, the best way to do that is to buy a land.

If you buy a plot of land and finish all the papers with that your N500k, you’ll never regret you did.

Because as times goes, on that same land can appreciate up to N2.5million within a year, meaning you earn N2m as profit!

If you have big money to save, don’t use bank, start thinking about real estate.

5.     Start a Profitable Business like Mini-importation

You’re actually thinking of saving your money but here is a business offer, what is happening?

Well, instead of keeping your money somewhere idle, think of using the money to start a business. And here, I recommend starting a mini-importation business.

Any business under ecommerce are fetching money these days, dropshipping and mini-importation is also not left behind. But how does this business work?

If you want to learn more about mini-importation, check this blog post here – in that post, I talked about dropshipping but I also explain in details what you need to know about Mini-importation.

But briefly,

Mini-importation business is when you buy some products from foreign countries at cheaper price and you sell here in Nigeria at higher price (at least above how much you bought it).

The secret to a successful mini-importation business in Nigeria is to find what is called ‘hot-selling products’ and you ship to sell in Nigeria.

Mini-importation is very advisable, if you’re really looking for a smart way to save money in Nigeria.

…. And that’s all about Smart Ways to Save Money in Nigeria

I have aligned 5 best ways to save your money in Nigeria and earn passive income, instead of leaving your money idle in bank or keep it someone acclaimed to be a trusted person, who can run away with your money anytime.

My first recommendation is to use Piggyvest and I’m sure you remember the benefits attached to using it to save your money? Apart from Piggyvest, you can also save money in Nigeria by buying bitcoin using Luno and maybe trade to earn more.

Then I told you about investing in Nigeria’s Treasury Bills, Real Estate and finally using the money to start a profitable business that will produce your money soon, and Mini-importation is one of these businesses.

Once again, I’m not against saving money in bank but as the title of this post says, Smart ways to save money in Nigeria – a way to save & Invest passively.

Top 10 Hot-selling Products for Mini-Importation & Dropshipping in Nigeria

0

Have you ever thought of starting a Dropshipping or mini-importation business in Nigeria but, you’re at a junction confused about the Hot-selling and profitable products to start with?

Well, I will show you the hot-selling and profitable products for mini-importation and Dropshipping. And somewhere in this page, I will share a link to a guide that’ll walk you through the processes of starting your dropshipping business in Nigeria.

Mini-importation and Dropshipping are the two goldmines in the ecommerce industry for smart entrepreneurs. Millions of Naira (and Dollars) has been made from these two businesses.

They are one of the most profitable businesses in the country. And in the future, it might be a great rival of most businesses we have presently.

The goal of dropshipping is to make sales without having or buying any physical inventory to stock goods. For Dropshipping, you can create a site, with the aid of Shopify, WooCommerce etc., then, add products and start selling. You could make changes to your inventory quite easily and update products without paying additional fees.

But for mini-importation business in Nigeria, you will need to gather some capital and buy products that will return high profit to you.

Let me tell you my personal experience:

In my personal experience with mini-importation, you need to study and understand the market before you ever think of buying in products from abroad. I bought a goods worth N37,000, used the total sum of N13,000 to ship it to my house (that’s N50,000 in total).

If I sell the products at its current price that time, I will make N99,700, meaning, I will have N49,700 as my own profit.

But you know what, the market change, the price of that products was cut to one-quarter. Meaning that the products I bought with N50k will now be sold for N12,500!

Instead of gaining, I lost N37,500 instead!

What am I trying to tell you? You need to understand the market very well before you ever think of investing your capital on Mini-importation.

But for Dropshipping, it’s risk-free. You have nothing to lose no matter what happened in the market.

To start dropshipping business, kindly read this complete guide on dropshipping.

Although dropshipping is profitable, not all products will guarantee you profit. For that reason, we’ve compiled a list of seven hot selling products for dropshipping in Nigeria.

There also tools that can help in finding top selling products and could use any of those. But for this article, we’ll be focusing on the top seven.

So, let go!

10 Hot-selling Products for Dropshipping & Mini-Importation in Nigeria

1.      Shoes:

Shoes are a necessary commodity in today’s world. Humans are been given birth daily with foot so the demand for foot wears isn’t going away anytime soon.

People need to put on shoes, and there are many reasons for this — some do it casually, others for events and other purposes.

One sweet thing about dropshipping and importing shoes in Nigeria is the wide varieties that are available on offer — we’ve got sneakers, sport shoes, formal shoes etc.

Putting things into broader perspective, we’ve male and female dress shoes from which other types of shoes originates from. According to a recent study, women generally have more shoes for different occasions than their opposite sex.

You’ll have to choose from the wide array of shoe type, size, gender type and focus mainly on that. Once you’ve got focus on something, it’s much easier to channel all resources towards it and getting the best from it.

I should also remind you that basically all shoes are lightweight and therefore easier to dropship or import — you wouldn’t have to pay much for shipping.

2.      Bags:

Bags just like shoes, are on high demand there have been an increased demand in shoes in the past decade from both sexes especially the females. Shoes and bags do share some similarities which makes them perfect for importing and dropshipping in Nigeria. Of the many similarities, two are of high importance to dropshippers or an importer is that, bags are both lightweight and of wide variety.

The demand for bags seems pretty high and it’s continually on the rise, dropshippers and smart importer can cash in on this lucrative business and make money without sweat. This is a multi-billion Dollar industry that many entrepreneurs want to tap into a you should too.

There are many suppliers of bags for dropshipping or importing to Nigeria, one good example is DropWow. They offer wide variety of bags from the best manufacturers at a relatively low price. You can get basically any bag you’re looking for on this site, they even sell bag accessories.

Bags will continue to be in demand as long as people keep traveling, moving to places and more — people just want to temporarily store things and using bag is a great way to do that.

3.      Phones & Accessories

In today’s world of constant communication, information and more, mobile phones have gone beyond making phone calls and texts. A typical smartphone today can be your camera/video recorder, mp3 player, scanner (you’ll need an app for this), your typewriter etc. The list is endless.

More awesome features will be added in the future, technology grows daily so don’t get freak out when you’re told your next smartphone comes with highly sophisticated features which may be literally beyond your imagination.

With the growing need of owning a smartphone, dropshippers and importers can cash in on this. People seem not to get enough of their current smartphones, some have two, three and more — even kids these days now owns a smartphone.

Many people get tired of using a particular smartphone, and there many reasons for this — new technology, new version, better specs etc. So, you can see the demand is really high, some people change their phones frequently so as to keep up with the latest on everything.

This is the best time to start dropshipping smartphones in Nigeria, the demand is really high and you can make good profit in the process.

NB: You could also dropship smartphone accessories to complement your smartphone sales. You would make more money doing this.

4.      Clothing Products

I don’t need to state the importance of clothes in our lives, it’s elementary! But I’ll say it’s a pretty lucrative item to start making money via dropshipping. We all wear clothes, we like to stock a wide variety of clothing in our wardrobes — old clothes, new clothes, latest fashion styles, these is what a typical wardrobe of an individual looks like.

People change clothes often and some do perform a wardrobe overhaul at some point.

Bottom line is; people like to have many clothes and I don’t know why — I think it’s inherent in humans.

Dropshipping or importing clothes is quite different from the conventional sale of clothes you may be used to. I’ll give you reasons why.

  • In dropshipping business, you can easily update your store by replacing old products with new ones, replace old trends with current trends. This is done for free. You don’t have to pay a dime.

But in the conventional retail or wholesaling of clothes, once you’ve bought your products from the manufacturer, you’ll need to buy again to update your trends even though you’re left with old stock. This scenario is eliminated via dropshipping — that’s the beauty of dropshipping clothes!

We’ve gone through generalized products above. Let check on more specific hot selling products for Mini-importation and Dropshipping in Nigeria.

5.      Slime

Slime is a really nice product and most sort after product in dropshipping. It’s a fun product to play with, a substance that can change from solid to liquid and solid to liquid.

There are different types of slime you could choose from; Fluffy slime, cleaning slime, popping slime, Glow-in-the-dark slime, Borax-free slime, and Glitter slime. It’s the most wanted product in the e-commerce market right now and dropshippers (and smart importer) do benefit from it.

You can get it from the popular Chinese brand — AliExpress or other top e-commerce sites.

6.      Wireless Chargers

Some technologies do get boring at some point and so is the case with wired charging. People need better ways to charge their smartphones these days, they’re beginning to dislike those long wires which at some point might get broken and therefore need replacement.

Wireless chargers, just like most wireless technologies, are here to stay. In fact, they aren’t going away soon. The convenience of placing your smartphone on a device and starts charging right away — nothing beats that. Although wireless charger may not deliver speeds like the wired chargers, it’s still worth having as research are working on improving its speed.

Dropshipping and/or importing wireless chargers is highly profitable and you should seize the opportunity to begin yours soon.

7.      Posture Correction Belts

Health is wealth they say!

People are looking for better ways to manage their health easily. Good posture is one sure way of living a healthy lifestyle. It quite difficult to obtain a good posture these days, with most jobs requiring us to assume wrong postures.

This problem could be solved with the use of ‘Posture correction belt(s)’ — it’s a belt that makes it easier to assume a proper posture whether at home or at work. It portable and easy to use — no wonder people are scrambling to get their hands on one.

As a dropshipper or aspiring importer, I see no reason you shouldn’t be adding this to your product list on your site.

8.      Waist Trainers

This may look as if it’s also “posture correction belt” but, waist trainer is different from posture corrector (or belt).

Some ladies are suffering from obesity and some others, want to have perfect body shape. That’s why it’s a great idea to start waist trainers’ dropshipping business in Nigeria.

You can buy a waist trainer for as low as $10 (N3,600) and sell it for N10,000 in Nigeria.

9.      Cosmetics & Jewelries

I don’t need to say much things about dropshipping and importing cosmetics products and jewelries. You know how ladies treats their makeups and always want to have the complete dressing, which includes using of matching jewelries.

So, if you’re thinking of going into dropshipping or mini-importation business soon, kindly think of these two hot-selling products.

Do you know that a powder can cost N50 and sold here in Nigeria for N300 – N500?

You don’t need to doubt this, Cosmetics and Jewelries are profitable products indeed.

10.  Home Utensils

What I mean by home utensils is everything we’re using at home. Ranging from bathroom to kitchen and in other part of a home.

This is what I’m saying, you can import products like toothbrush, pots, stoves or electric cooker, soap cases, towel, plastics, plates, jugs, cups, spoons, your extension box etc. All these products are either dropshipped or imported from foreign countries.

The truth is that, these products are cheap when bought from CHINA.

You may be thinking that China products are fake but let me tell you that more than 70% of products we are using in Nigeria comes from China, including your lovely smartphone.

So, think of these home utensil products and start your business like a pro!

Requirement to Start a Money Making YouTube Channel in Nigeria

Before moving forward, here are some things you’d be needing in other to start racking up the cash on YouTube.

  • A good camera

Before thinking of how to make money on YouTube in Nigeria, you should know before now that your number one tool is “Camera”. Without telling you, you know very well that YouTube is all about videos and a good camera will go long way helping you get started as a newbie YouTuber in Nigeria.

We are quite lucky to have smartphones these days with good camera that can be compared to the likes of Canon, Nikon or Panasonic cameras. You could start with a smartphone camera (preferably iPhone), you could then switch to quality DSLR camera as time goes on.

  • Internet connectivity / IT Gadgets

After recording your videos you’d be required to upload them to your channel. Your videos might have some glitches here and there, some places to cut and more – you’d need a good laptop or smartphone to edit those videos.

  • A space with good natural or artificial lightening

Some YouTubers call it studio, but you could get a good space with adequate lighting facility, it could be natural or artificial. Among the both, I’ll recommend an external lighting device which should provide you with proper light for a much crisper video.

These devices can be bought from any electrical store or online, their price ranges from a low as N10,000 to N150,000 – the higher the price, the better the quality.

P.S. Go for devices with adjustable lights, else some of your videos might get overly exposed.

  • Sound Device / Microphone

This is arguably the biggest challenge for YouTubers in Nigeria and the world beyond. A good video with matching sound quality is top notch and keeps the viewers glued to your channel, if a viewer stretches their ears to listen to you, they might just get discouraged and leave your channel.

Yes, your recording device (a smartphone or digital camera) might have a microphone, but the quality of such mics isn’t a good as you’d want, with this in mind you’d be visiting the market or online store again to get a good external microphone. Some of the best brands to choose from will be the Rode, Shure, Heil, or BlueYeti.

  • Pick a niche

To succeed as a YouTuber in Nigeria, you’ll need something to focus on – a niche. Every top YouTuber you see today has a field which they focus on and create contents related to such field – it could be tech, fashion, entertainment, education, finance and any other field you could think of.

Now, let start taking about how you can start and make money on YouTube in Nigeria;

How to Start a Channel & Make Money on YouTube in Nigeria

1.     Sign up for a YouTube account

To get started visit https://www.youtube.com for desktop, or https://m.youtube.com for mobile devices. After this, click on sign in and login with your Google account – you’d have to create one if you don’t have any.

After signing in, search for a video and try commenting on it and you’d be prompted to create a channel.

  • The next screen will require you to choose your name, or a brand name, below it you have to choose from a list of categories – Product or Brand, Company Institution or Organization, Arts Entertainment or Sport and Others, these are the options available for now. With this you’ve successfully created your YouTube channel, next you have to add a channel art and channel icon.

The channel art and icon can be likened to Facebook’s profile photo and cover photo respectively. You could change your art and icon whenever your want, you have to make it look vibrant with a recommended size of 2560 x 1440 for the channel art.

After adding these, a page description, contact info, email and more will be needed to set up you new YouTube account.

2.     Start Growing Your Channel

Yeah, you want to make money on YouTube in Nigeria, you want to be a top YouTuber, you’ll need to grow your fanbase and I’ll show you how.

You can grow your YouTube channel in Nigeria using:

  • Social Media:

YouTube make money from ADs, (more) people will need to view these ADs for you to make money from YouTube. These people in question here, are your subscribers – before now you should have a social media account, you could as well create a page or handle(s) that’ll collaborate your channel.

When you upload a new video, it’s a nice idea to let your fans know by posting it on your social handles, with links to the video as well – this will let more of your fans know about your latest video. With this, you’d see your subscribers grow.

  • Nairaland

Another option here is to post it a link to your video on your website or blog, if you don’t have one, you could use Nairaland – posting the link with some descriptions in the related section.

Note: The more people that watch your videos, the more chances of making huge money!

  • YouTube SEO

Oh yeah, there’s also SEO for YouTubers, and if you have to make money from the service in Nigeria, you have to utilize this fully with these tips;

How to Properly Do YouTube Video SEO in Nigeria

  • Using appropriate tags

What are tags? this are search terms or words you made mention of in your videos. Since search engine crawlers can’t watch vids, they depend on what’s written in the tags when indexing YouTube videos.

When using tags, be sure to use tags that you think viewers might likely search for, words or phrases you think most viewers will likely use when searching for videos on YouTube.

If you own a food related channel and you make a video that teaches ‘how to make egg sauce’, you could use tags like “egg sauce”, “how to make egg sauce”, “types of egg sauce”, “materials needed for egg sauce”. Your tags must be written between the double colon as above, it could also be a word or a phrase – but whatever it is, it should relate to your video.

If you find these phrases difficult to acquire, YouTube’s analytics portal will be of help to you.

  • Caption / Translations

YouTube offers an automatic caption service, an AI powered service that transcribes your videos for you. This transcription service is mainly meant for those with hearing difficulties. Search crawlers also use this indexing YouTube vids.

If you want to make money from YouTube in Nigeria, you have to transcribe your videos yourself as Google’s AI isn’t perfect, especially as it doesn’t understand our local language – which you might use at some point in your videos. YouTube gives you an opportunity to add a transcript to your videos; this will make those crawlers comprehend your video better.

  • Descriptions

This part is key to making money on YouTube. The description tab on YouTube can fit up to 5,000 words and you should utilize this better. This tab is meant for giving your viewers what to expect from the video, – timestamps, affiliate links, download links and more will be in this part.

The search crawlers also consider this part – especially to early parts of your descriptions. For better results, it’s advisable to write affiliate links, and other non-related on-video content at the bottom, while on-video related content should appear at the top.

  • Use eye-catching thumbnails

A thumbnail in case you don’t know, is the image that appear on the video before it starts playing, this isn’t SEO per se but it’s required.

A compelling thumbnail that depicts what your viewers might see in the video will be tempting to anyone. YouTube provides a list of three possible thumbnails to choose from automatically after uploading your video, you could choose any one of the three or you could create a custom thumbnail as some YouTubers in Nigeria do.

When creating a custom thumbnail, please ensure that it isn’t misleading and deceptive, this is strongly frowned upon by YouTube and you could be punished if caught. Your custom thumbnail should give your viewers some hint on what to expect from the video proper, so use a compelling one and not something deceptive.

How to Write a Business Proposal in Nigeria – and Possibly Woo Investors!

0

If you’re here to learn the simple guide on how to write business proposal in Nigeria and win the heart of your clients without much ado, this blog post will walk you through the right path.

Have you ever met a client who demanded you write a business proposal for him/her before the negotiating project(s) will be awarded to you?

If yes, I know how it’ll feel because it might seem challenging just like when I was accosted by a big client from United States of America (USA) who told me that without a detailed and formal business proposal, no job for me!

Business proposals have become common in today’s world, with many not knowing how to go about writing it. But you may be asking…

What is Business proposal?

A business proposal in Nigeria is like any business proposal in the world.

It is a written document stating an intended form of business to a client, seeking their support in the process. Support in the case isn’t just monetary, it could be in psychological or material form – something that’ll benefit your intended business.

But Business Plan is NOT Business Proposal….

It’s so sad that many people outside there are interchanging the term business proposal for ‘business plan’, which is 100% wrong because both terms are quite different.

Yes, writing business proposal in Nigeria is different from writing business plan and you shouldn’t make any mistake taking the two as one. But they both share certain similarities such as;

  • They are both written document
