21

We have a lot of hidden talents in Nigeria, all competing subtly for the spotlight. If you happen to be one of them, what you need is a technique to promote your music and brand to amplify your music’s reach across the country and its borders.

If your efforts have been relentless yet met with frustration, know that this blog post is crafted with patience to offer you guidance.

But before we dive in, let me remind you again that promoting your songs in Nigeria is not going to be easy. Because tons of talents like you are also trying to claim that piece of cake you want to have in the music industry.

I’m not scaring you, but that’s just the truth, you know.

But what are the best ways to promote your music in Nigeria or anywhere in the world?

Before going into the details, we need to quickly remind ourselves what exactly music promotion is.

What is Music Promotion?

Music promotion is simply the process of taking your recorded song(s) from the studio (say point A) along some routes (Say B – Y) to the final consumer/fans (let’s say Z) who will buy or stream that song and, in the returns, you earn some bucks and fame.

That sounds too easy!

Music Promotion is one major, and one of the most important things to clearly figure out and implement in the right way for artists like you and for a music record label to be successful in the Music Business.

Many upcoming artists in Nigeria and beyond have blindly ignored the important roles of music promotion, which is why they are still struggling to meet their focused target gladly enough, you as a musician or an affiliated individual to the music industry will learn pretty well from this selected and best ways to promote music in Nigeria.

There are many opportunities associated with Music Promotion in Nigeria you might have to know some of them before this article but, I will also state a few of these music promotion and marketing strategies in this article, all you need to do is to keep calm, don’t scroll until you finish reading the whole words and sentences in each paragraph.

So, let’s ride on;

Best Ways to Promote Your Music in Nigeria

I want you to learn and relearn from these tips;

1. Promote your songs culturally

This is the best way to promote your songs in Nigeria because it doesn’t involve spending a dime to market yourself to the people.

The aim of this technique is not to make money but to get your voice heard, and start building your career from somewhere even though you might not have money yet.

Below are the ways to promote your music in Nigeria culturally;

  • Do Free Music Shows

Yes, do free shows! Starting from your school, your house, to your street, to the entire town or city. With this, you will start gaining popularity and build fans.

I remember this guy in my hostel will volunteered to sing for us whenever the vibe was boring. And I know quite a few numbers of successful artists who started this way too.

Participate in street carnivals, the social events in your school, etc. Speak to the organizers or MCs to give you a few minutes and hopefully, some of them will give you the mic. Even if they don’t, keep trying until you achieve this milestone.

If you think you’re shy because your friends or people in your street will make jest of you, or because people will reject you then you’re not ready for what you are signing up for.

  • Open-air Play

Take your music promotion a little bit further. Get your songs played in restaurants, hotels, clubhouses, and other open-air places within and outside your locality.

  • Collaborate with other local artists

You may not be noticed if you’re flying alone. When I was in secondary school some years ago, some guys in my place with different talents came together to form a group. In the group, they have dancers, rappers, drummers, and producers.

It was easy for them to get the whole town to listen to them because of their combined efforts and talents, even though they didn’t have money.

A good example of people like these is “Zinoleesky, Lil Frosh, and their friends”. I will still use this example as we move on.

  • Do TikTok videos

In 2021, TikTok was the most visited website in the world, and this is due to the fact that over a billion people use it actively each month.

This makes TikTok the hottest social media platform right now. The best way you can utilize this great platform is by continuously posting videos of yourself freestyling to your songs there and joining a lot of live videos there to entertain people.

These few cultural methods are very important, and I recommend you pass through some of them if not all. You need practical experience but yet, a way to promote your music in Nigeria without breaking the bank.

2. Leverage freestyling and social media

This is also one of the fastest and best ways to promote your song.

Zinoleesky freestyled his way to stardom. REMA freestyled before he got recognized. Ayra Starr did the same. Blaqbones did, and a lot of talents known today were madly freestyling on social media, improving themselves while building their fan base until they all got recognized by their respective record labels.

And freestyling is the best way to get the attention of big record label owners. It is not by tagging them to listen to your song or sending them private messages.

Don Jazzy signed a lot of his artists after seeing them freestyling on social media, Olamide, a very famous Nigerian musician signed 3 artists in a day on Instagram.

Freestyling has proved itself to be one of the best ways to promote music in Nigeria, and you need to start doing that now! Don’t be shy buddy, sign up for greatness without shame.

There are many opportunities awaiting you on social media to promote your music in Nigeria, In fact, Music promotion in Nigeria and any other place in the world can’t be achieved without social media!

Billions of people actively use social media each day to get over boredom. And that’s why entertainment has become one of the hottest industries in the world.

Your aim is not to get a billion people following or listening to your music, but just a few hundred or thousand people is okay.

The following are some Social media networks you can use:

  • TikTok
  • Instagram
  • Facebook
  • and Twitter (now “X”).

I will recommend you join live videos on TikTok a lot and try to entertain people there.

A simple advice for you: Freestyle unapologetically, Don’t worry if people on social media drag you, take their dragging as feedback to improve yourself.

3. Promote Your Music Digitally

If we are both alive until this century, we will be definitely sure that the Internet has taken over everything.

For that reason, promoting your song on digital stores is the one of best ways to get your voice heard and your talents known. You also have chances of making money on these digital stores too.

As explained above, I said social media plays a very vital role in music promotion and marketing.

Popular Digital Store for Music Promotion

If you don’t know how to create an artist account or put your songs on these platforms, you may need to do a little Google search or seek the help of someone to help you.

NOTE: Click on anyone you wish to use above and you will be directed to the website where you will create your own account. Also, procedures to register your account will be given to you on the website.

4. Promote on Music Blogs

This should have come second on the list, but the world has changed, and promoting music in Nigeria is now easier compared to 10 years ago.

About 10 years ago, you had to pay the likes of Naijaloaded to help you promote your songs, but right now, what I will recommend is to get your own website or blog for yourself or your record label to promote both your songs, build fans through those who visit your blog or website.

The reason why I said that is because most people no longer download songs from those sites again, people stream songs online.

So what artists (who have the money) do now, is that they have their personal website, and then embed their song snippets from Spotify or other streaming platforms on the platform.

An example is Ayra Starr’s website: https://ayrastarr.com, or Mavin’s record website: (mavinrecords.com)

P.S: If you need a website for yourself, business or record label, I am at your service.

Kindly send me a message on WhatsApp: 081 6454 0355 or Check my portfolio at stephengade.com

Having your own blog or website is not enough to promote your music as you’re still starting out. If you have the money, you can promote it on music blogs.

Blogs these days is not just a website with words, people now use social media platforms to blog. There are popular bloggers on social media you can pay to promote your song for you. Such include the popular Instablog9ja among others.

Although people no longer download songs from primitive music websites in Nigeria, they still have millions of people checking their website, if you have the money, you can promote yourself and songs on the websites.

We have thousands of websites where you can promote your music in Nigeria at an affordable price. An example is Naijaloaded.

But you may want to ask…

How Much Does It Cost to Promote Songs in Nigeria

The cost of music promotion in Nigeria varies from as low as N10,000 – N70,000 and, to infinity depending on the bloggers you approach and the popularity of the blogs. So, there is no precise cost price to promote your music in Nigeria. Big music blogs like Naijaloaded will charge from N50,000 upwards.

Some new music blogs will charge you something like N5,000 but you have to remember that they’re still new compared to Naijaloaded and likes.

10 Popular Sites to Promote Your Music in Nigeria

Below are popular websites to promote your songs in Nigeria:

  • TooXclucive.com
  • Naijaloaded.com
  • 360Nobs.com
  • 9jaflava.com
  • jaguda.com
  • instablog9ja.com
  • 36Ng.com
  • NaijaHitSongs.com
  • NotJuskOk.com
  • NaijaPals.com

Apart from NaijaPals where you can upload your song for free (but you’ll promote it yourself), other popular sites listed above will take nothing less than N50,000 to help you upload and promote your music in Nigeria…

5. Use Influencers

This may cost you some bucks, but using influencers to promote music in Nigeria is advisable if you can pay for it.

Influencers are those popular people on social media with a lot of followers and engagement on their pages. The more followers and reach these influencers have, the more they’ll bill you.

But it actually works most time.

The reason is simply that different people like music producers, record label owners, and creative people are following these influencers. From there, someone might like your art and decide to sponsor or sign you. You don’t know what may happen.

A lot of people (aside from businesses) owe their success to the likes of Tunde Ednut, Pocolee, Instablog9ja, and other big social media influencers in the country.

But it’s not going to be cheap, prepare to spend some hundred thousand on Naira.

Another way to get these influencers’ attention is to work your way to create content that will go viral, they may repost that content and that’s a free promotion for you!

An influencer is capable of turning your story around. So, consider paying influencers as part of your music promotion in Nigeria if you can afford it.

6. Start a Dance or Freestyle Challenge

Chill, I’m not asking you to diss anybody.

But yes, challenge or competition is another way to get your voice heard. All you have to do is to have a nice song or street banger, do freestyle, and post it on social media platforms.

That’s one!

The next step is to tell people to freestyle or dance to the same song, post on social media and you’ll award the winner or top 3 dancers or cover singers some money.

At the mention of money, no matter how small it is, a lot of people will jump on it. The more people that join the challenge, the more viral your content will go.

You can just prepare to spend like N100,000 for the challenge. N50k for 1st person that wins, N30k, and N20k for 2nd and 3rd runner-ups.

This method works, especially if you are on a budget but your song is a hit.

Even big artists sometimes do this.

Go and try it also, a challenge or competition on social media is a viable way to promote your music in Nigeria. Participants will help you share and promote the song, just prepare their gifts.

7. Pay DJs and Event Hosts

I know you’re aware of this method, but you’re not sure if it still works, right? It works.

Some music stars today promote their songs heavily with DJs or with the help of an event host before they finally hit the spotlight. Look for DJs who mix songs professionally and pay them to add your songs to their next project.

They’ll include your song alongside popular artists like Wizkid, Davido, etc., and people will be attracted by the superstar’s songs, but from there, they’ll hear your song and they may start loving you if your song is cool.

Using DJs is a good way to promote your song, try it out.

For event hosts, you may need to work on your network before you can be given a chance. But if you see an opportunity, don’t lose it. Remember, the goal is to promote yourself and your song, not to make money yet.

8. Promote Songs on YouTube

What we see is virtually stored in our brain than what we hear.

promoting music with videos in Nigeria is also effective than you may think. Billions of people watch videos online every day. Why can’t you tap your own fans from these people, why can’t you give your videos for them to watch and see your creativity and talent’s manifestations?

On YouTube which is the second most visited website in the world (Alexa Ranking), billions of people upload and watch videos on the website every day.

The amazing thing I love about YouTube is its monetization…

What do I mean?

You can upload your videos for free and make money on them from what we know as “AdSense“.

If the money-making part interests you, please, read this guide about Making Money with YouTube videos.

You may be thinking that you don’t have money for music videos, don’t worry. Just gather your friends and ask someone who’s good enough among them to help you create a music video with what you have.

9. Paid Advertising

You can also do paid advertising to promote your music in Nigeria.

Paid Advertising often appears on websites or apps that relate to your ads’ texts globally. You will have to pay some money and choose a plan that is more affordable to you.

The best way to use paid advertising in promoting your songs is either through Facebook, Instagram, or YouTube Ads.

Although these platforms support video format, you can easily find a way to get around it. Maybe by using freestyle or use an Mp3 converter to convert your song to Mp4.

This will require you to set up a good social media page for yourself and be solely dedicated to your songs and connecting with your fans.

If you would like to run social media ads (Paid advertising), I am at your service. Hire me, let’s talk on WhatsApp via 081 6454 0355

If by chance you have seen something like “Sponsored” on posts on social media, that simply means that someone has paid Google, Facebook, or the particular social media platform to promote the post to a lot of people.

You can also this for your songs, especially on YouTube.

10. Media Interviews and Gingles

This will go a long way, but most people take it for granted.

Some radio stations are ready to interview or use your song as jingles. All you have to do is to pay them for the time and your song will be broadcast to a lot of people at once.

Although this is a traditional way to promote your songs, but it still works.

Also, reach out to media companies like HipTV and popular entertainment companies to help you promote your music. But you are going to spend a lot, first on your music videos and ad space on the platform.

11. Try e-mail Marketing

Bloggers and webmasters use E-mail campaigns to share their content, eBooks, and other products with their subscribers, and in return, this yields them large subscribers, traffic, and finally sales.

Musicians now use this. For instance, I signed up for the MavinsRecord newsletter. They send me emails of their artist’s next event and songs which is a brilliant idea rather than just depending on social media.

You create an account with a mail handler and, you integrate it with your personal website or blog through a code that you will generate from your mail handler account. There are free plans that you can use but, if you have some money, you can go for Premium.

Click and sign up on any of the following mail handlers:-

Aweber
Mailchimp
• Maligne
• Etc…

In this blog, I use Mailchimp and it’s very easy for me to use in collating potential readers as my subscribers, You also can try it out.

Business Funding: 7 Ways to Get Funding For Your Business Idea or Startup

0

Are you at the stage of your business where you need business funding or someone to invest in your business idea? It happens to almost all entrepreneurs and that’s a sign that you’re growing.

You have a great business idea, but you don’t have enough capital to finance it, right? Let’s talk about how entrepreneurs or business owners can get funding for their idea or startup.

Some great business ideas are dead because of inadequate funding, and some are still running at a spot with no result to show at all. The problem sometimes is not really “how” but “where” to get the fund.

On this page, I will discuss just seven (7) easiest ways to get funding for your business idea and then, briefly discuss how you can get the fund.

What is Business Funding?

Business Funding is simply the act of the resources needed to finance a project or business, in this context. The resources can be in form of anything that can finance a business.

So, when we say Business Funding, it does not always mean ‘MONEY or Capital.

Business funding includes getting team members who spend their time and effort, getting pieces of equipment, paying for some necessities such as a company or business registration, and marketing strategies. If you think about this, you will notice that everything can be achieved with “Money”.

In essence, you need money to finance and grow your business, to get the “resources” needed to make your business work the right way you envisioned. And that’s what we’re going to discuss now.

7 Ways to Get Business Funding to Finance Your Business Idea

#1 Personal Funding

The first way to get started with business funding is through your personal financial investment. Of course, it is your Startup or business idea and you should be ready to invest in it.

If your business needs $10,000 and you have more than that in your bank account, you should invest some part of, or all the $10k needed. If you’re afraid that you might lose the money, then you don’t need to continue the business because your instincts have failed you already. How do you want people to invest in your business idea if you personally don’t trust the idea?

Another thing I will like to mention about personal business funding is that some people have a great business idea but nothing to finance it personally – If you’re in this category, I’m sorry to tell you that you’re not ready to start a business yet.

What you need right now is a job or a skill to earn money, not a way to be loaded with ideas but no business funding and be stagnant.

I’m not saying you should not have a big dream to become a business owner, but an African proverb says “By crawling, a child learns to stand”. If you really want to stand and grow big, you need to crawl first, you need to start building from yourself.

Although sometimes, personal funding might not work especially if you’re still a student or you just lost your job. Is there any other way to get business funding? Yes!

#2 Ask Family Members & Friends

If you can or cannot finance your business yourself, then the next people you should meet for business funding are your friends and family members. Although they are close to you, when asking them for money, you should treat it as business, not as help or their obligation. It is your business, remember.

To get the funding from your family members and friends, you should have a good business plan for your business idea to get them interested in investing their money.

This part of getting business funding may not work for you, especially if your friends and family members think you’re richer than them and/or they rely on you. But try to speak to them first and see if it’ll work or not.

#3 Look for Business Grants

Another way you can get business funding to finance your business idea or startup is through grants.

What is Grant?

A business grant is a money given to business owners (or entrepreneurs) to finance or support and grow their business. These business grants are most awarded by rich philanthropists, non-governmental organizations, governments, and big companies.

Business Grant Vs Business Loan

Business Funding: Loan vs Grants
CREDIT: Keydifferences.com

A business grant is different from a business loan. The difference is that you must back a business loan, while you don’t pay back grants.

If you have a good business idea and plan, you should look out for funding opportunities like this, as it comes as “free money”. But not really free because those who give you the grants expect you to give back by using the funds wisely and employing people as the business grows.

So, we can frankly agree that the essence of business funding is to help small businesses grow and reduce the unemployment rate.

A good example of these business grants is the one provided by Central banks, the Ministry of Finances, the Ministry of Commerce, and other government institutions such as those who deal with Agriculture, Tech, and so on.

In Africa, there is a platform called “Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF)” which is founded by the founder of Heirs Holdings, United Bank for Africa among others. Thousands of entrepreneurs in Africa are supported with $5,000 each year. So if you’re in Africa, you should look out for this.

#4 Consider Business Loan

Sometimes, you may not be lucky for business grants or getting assistance from your family members. But there are institutions ready to give a business loan to you as long as you have a good business plan and/or collateral.

To get this loan, all you have to do is visit your bank and meet with the manager to discuss it.

There are some people who claim they assist people with loans, you see their adverts almost everywhere. But I will advise you not to try them at all because most of them are loan sharks in disguise.

The best place to get a business loan is to visit your bank, as simple as that!

RECOMMENDED:

Some people claim they help businesses with loans too, be careful before you jump into trying them.

#5 Try Crowdfunding

People are using crowdfunding to raise money for different purposes such as hospital bills, school fees, legal fees, and most important to finance a startup or business idea.

If you’re not that versatile with the world of the internet, you might want to know how crowdfunding works, right? Let me give a brief introduction to it

What is crowdfunding?

From the two words, “crowd” and “funding”, Crowdfunding is simply raising funds or money by a large number of people from different places to support or finance a particular project or bills.

These people decide how much they’re willing to contribute or in simple language, donate.

Crowdfunding is a method you can use to raise funds for your business. You’re not returning the money, it’s simply a donation. People across the world are ready to finance, support or help in one way or another, but also, people are stupid to be scammed of their hard-earned money.

That’s why you must be able to convince them why they should donate for you. If you think this method of business funding is what you would like to try, kindly check out these top crowdfunding platforms (here).

#6 Angel Investing

It’s not the regular angel you’re thinking of, but yeah, they’re like angels (God sent people) who can help fund your business. These people are called “Angel investors”.

Who is Angel Investor?

An angel investor is a wealthy individual who provides funding or capital to finance small businesses or startups in exchange for part of the company’s ownership (equity).

Like I said, angel investors, are like God’s sent. They are interested in funding your business at its early stage (when you are just starting). When other investors are not ready to give you funding, angel investors will be glad to chip in and give you that funding.

Remember that these angel investors are rich individuals, so you have to look for them. If you’re in Nigeria, you can check this blog post on top angel investors for business funding.

#7 Venture Capital Funding

Corporate Finance Institute defines venture capital funding as: “A form of financing that provides funds to early-stage, emerging companies with high growth potential, in exchange for equity or an ownership stake.”

Venture capital investors or Venture capitalists (VCs) are like angel investors but on a ‘Pro Max” level. Because VCs will provide a lot of money to fund your business or company as long as they see potential in it. Angel investors are individuals, but venture capitalists can be a company or a group of people who come together.

You’ve heard of Kuda Bank or Flutterwave raising millions of dollars to finance their business, right? Do you know that companies like Facebook, Uber, Airbnb, and other big companies in the world are once backed or supported by venture capital funding?

Venture capitalists are so rich to provide business funding for your business or company as long as it has the potential for growth and of course, the VCs will be a part of your business’ ownership.

Think Before You Decide

Before you think of hunting for business funding, you have to think and be sure if you’re ready. As I said, people believe in potential, if your business or startup lacks the potential to grow, then no one is going to invest in it, including your family members and friends.

If your startup has the potential to grow, try as much as possible to take the business out of the idea stage. I mean take action with the little you have and the people around you.

Another thing you have to prepare is a good business plan that you can always submit to those who might be interested in investing, giving you a loan, or connecting you with investors. If you’re not good at preparing business plan writing, hire someone to do that for you.

Note that some investors are taking part in your company, I mean, they’re taking part in business ownership. The more investors and funding you get, the more the chances of knocking yourself out of the business.

Just think before you decide.

That’s how to get business funding to finance your business or startup.

21 Business Ideas for Pastors to Make Money in 2024

0

Aside from tithes, offerings, and gifts, do you know there are some business ideas for pastors to make money?

If you’re into the pastoral line and you’re looking to start up side businesses to fortify your financial status, then you’re definitely on the right page. And you’re not alone.

The pastoral call is demanding. You need to study hard, prepare sermons to canvas, and truly get to become intimate with the spirit of God. But the truth is – you need money.

There are expenses you need to shoulder as a gospel minister, and you don’t want to depend on the pockets of the members of the Church for survival.

Primarily, you need multiple sources of income to garner enough money to both help your flock with and handle other church activities – especially as it has to do with giving and outreach.

Without taking much time, you’ll get a dose of 21 business ideas for pastors right here, and you can start any of these businesses and expect lucrative returns in the long run.

Some of the business ideas for pastors on this list won’t cost you a dime, and others… quite costly to start up.

That being said, here are 21 business ideas for pastors that you can delve into and make some extra money (even more than the $99k average pastor’s salary).

21 Business Ideas for Pastors to Make Money in 2024

1. Freelance Writing

Freelance writing is simply writing to get paid. This is made easier by the availability of freelance marketplaces on the internet like Fiverr and Upwork.

Now you won’t spend a dime here, and as a pastor, you can decide on how many hours of your precious day you spend working and hunting freelance writing jobs.

To get started, you need to be sure you can write about something fabulous. My best bet is you’re a religious guru and the religious niche is most related to your career (being a pastor).

So you want to search for freelance writing jobs in the religious niche – vet the freelance marketplaces for employers looking for writers in the religious niche.

This is pretty easy as most of the freelance platforms have an algorithm to match your expertise with employers’ demands. So if you’re a tech guru and you fill it into your profile, the platforms automatically queue up jobs related to tech.

Quickly sign up on either of the best freelance platforms and get to work. You can take 2 or 3 hours off your day to build a profitable freelance writing career in no time.

2. Copywriting

Brands are willing to pay you a lot of money to write brief, highly compelling, and converting sales speeches and product descriptions for their products.

It’s like this – you write for brands and help them with copywriting tasks, and you get paid. Copywriting doesn’t take a whole day. It’s a skill you need to master (at least to some point).

Copywriting isn’t cranking up a 1,000-word article or a 10,000-word guide. Product copies are short and highly compelling. They’re tagged along with products and are easy to read.

This is easily one of the best business ideas for pastors looking to make extra money. It gets easier to write copies that turn random (potential) buyers into loyal customers over time.

And once you gain mastery of this art, then you’ll be on the payroll of multiple brands in a short while. This means more jobs and more money.

3. Public Speaking

Public speaking at events, programs, and other gatherings is one of the best business ideas for pastors as it is closely in line with what you do frequently – speaking.

While you might not consider this a business idea or even take it to become a business in itself, public speakers not trundling the pastoral path cash in on public speaking as a business big time.

4. Uberpreneur

If you own a car, you can do this part-time as a side gig.  Being a pastor, you can explore your leisure hours during weekends to pick up random passengers using a ride-sharing app like Uber.

It’s easy and doesn’t cost much. But you’ll need to have a car of your own first to make things much easier. You get paid for every passenger you pick up and you can do this as many times in a day.

Another way around this is hiring someone to run around in your car using the ride-sharing app while you supervise the earnings and transactions.

Come to terms with the staff you hire as to how much you’ll take home daily weekly or monthly. And how much he/she keeps daily (or weekly/monthly). This way, it becomes an excellent passive income stream.

5. Graphics Designing

Are you a graphics designer or do you have a list of good graphics designers who design your church handbills and billboards? Then you can leverage the profit potential of graphics designing.

It’s two ways – source for graphics design jobs on freelance platforms and outsource the jobs to experts in the field, or reach out to brands and organizations offering to help them out with everything graphics designing.

On freelance platforms like Fiverr and Upwork, graphics designers get paid like rockstars. And you don’t have to do it yourself as a pastor.

You can hunt for these jobs and outsource the task to someone else (apparently a reliable and efficient graphics designer). It costs nothing to explore this business idea. You can start right away. But if you farm out the tasks to experts, then you need to pay them off (which will cost money).

6. Ghost Writing

More than 80% of successful brands and writers don’t compose their articles in solitaire. They get help from brilliant writers who can replicate any writing voice, flow, and spirit.

For a pastor, this shouldn’t be a problem (as you can speak in any manner or voice you choose). You want to brush up on your writing skills to venture this path.

Ghostwriting is a profitable business idea for pastors, and the best part is it costs nothing to start up. You’re the asset here. And you get paid (more than $1k per article in most cases) to cobble up great content.

7. Real Estate

I know one too many pastors making it big in the real estate industry. Don’t think they don’t do great with their ministerial purpose because they have just more than the name – they’re spiritually upright.

With your influence as a pastor, people trust you. And you can turn this trust into opportunities that’ll generate good money. The real estate industry works with capital and trust.

I mean, people need to trust you enough to leave you a million-dollar worth of property. You don’t have to look too far to start this. And I bet someone in your congregation is into the real estate industry big-time.

Start from there and tap into the already existing influence and trust you’ve built over the years to propel your real estate venture. In the end, it’s all about buying and selling properties – you can push buttons with phone calls.

If you are already into real estate or just want to join the business, you can register on popular real estate listing platforms with a token as a subscription to sell or lease out your properties.

If you’re in Nigeria, Realty9ja.com is a good platform to buy, rent, lease, or sell properties.

8. Gospel Blogging

I don’t want to veer off the gospel line. So let’s stick with gospel blogging (which is still very profitable). Start a gospel blog, answer questions, and you can transcribe your sermons to text documents with the help of freelancers or your media team (if they’re that good).

The first step – your niche is gospel. More than 2 billion people are already interested. Secondly, start your blog. This guide will teach you how to start a free blog even with an Android phone.

Reach out to other gospel bloggers who will be quick and happy to connect with you. Have your media team create guest content on several other gospel blogs to build your blog’s authority, and then you can start launching ultra-relevant content on your blog to get traffic.

When the traffic starts turning in, monetize your blog using affiliate links, and Google ads, or sell your books (and products) – more on this soon.

What you’ll blog about? There are thousands of questions currently unanswered about God. You know better. Provide answers in a way that people will keep coming back for more answers.

9. Gospel YouTube Channel Monetization

Allen Parr is one gospel minister who reaches thousands of viewers with his gospel YouTube channel called “The Beat”. He answers sensitive and controversial questions on the gospel and makes money doing that.

How so? With more than 740k subscribers, he earns from selling affiliate products, and YouTube ads, and even has a $497 membership program.

You can do this too, and you don’t have to be a gifted video editor or video maker to begin. Hire someone who can edit videos brilliantly, and efficiently. Or utilize the digital strength of your Church media team to publish video content consistently on your YouTube channel.

This is inarguably a top business idea for pastors, choristers, and anyone called into the fivefold.

10. Virtual Assistant

Virtual assistants work remotely and they help with tasks admins don’t have the luxury of time to handle. They edit content, reply to emails, and organize meeting arrangements.

But that’s not all – they get paid well to do just that. To become a virtual assistant, all you need to do is apply. Websites like Indeed, Fancy Hands, Magic, and PeoplePerHour are great at listing Virtual Assistant jobs.

You have only so many hours in a day to carry out your V.A. tasks and keep the cash before it’s time to mount the altar.

11. Proofreading

It’s great to write. But great writing mostly beckons on the strength of great proofreading. As a proofreader, you vet content and mitigate unnecessary errors that introduce unprofessionalism.

Proofreading jobs are rampant on freelance platforms and this is another business idea you don’t have to spend money, to begin with.

On the bright side, craft corporate letters to brands, send emails to different organizations and inform them you can anchor their proofreading process with dexterity.

It doesn’t take 10 hours to proofread a document – you can proofread a 3000-word document in about 30 minutes, and do that for several documents to earn $100 – $350 every time (depending on the budget of your freelance employer).

You also have the option to outsource proofreading tasks to skilled proofreaders you know and take up multiple proofreading tasks to earn more.

12. Crypto Trading

Crypto has come to stay. And the decentralized system of financial transactions isn’t hostile to pastors either.

You can tap into the volatile nature of cryptocurrencies while maintaining and running your ministry. With about $100, you can start trading crypto yourself.

The best investment is to invest in yourself by learning to trade crypto versus investing in crypto trading firms to help you out. Invest time to learn everything you can about crypto.

If you can understand God’s word with accuracy, then crypto isn’t as challenging. There’s a possibility to exercise your grace and faith in the crypto world. Who knows? You could execute a trade to make 40,000 times the initial asset you invested within a single day.

To get started, acquire the knowledge. And get to know the best trading platforms out there. Personally (out of my professional experience as a Crypto Trader), Binance is best for trading.

But if you want to acquire cryptocurrencies and leave them there to germinate over the coming years, then go for the Blockchain app (or Binance if you can control the urge to not execute daily trading anytime you set eyes on the crypto market).

13. Catfish Farming

Catfish farming is profitable for anyone looking to start a business. As a pastor, this business idea fits in too. It’s capital-intensive and highly lucrative.

You don’t have to become a fish farmer overnight. Hire someone to set up the fish farm and coordinate the activities of the farm.

When the fish reach the maturity stage, you can sell them to make money or start up a catfish barbeque business off the produce of your fish farm.

14. Poultry Farming

Poultry farming is a great business idea for pastors and you don’t have to do it yourself. It’s cheap to start up and doesn’t cost much to maintain either (depending on the size of your farm).

As a Pastor, you’ll have a lot of time to supervise your poultry farm from time to time while you focus on what God wants you to do.

You can hire a staff to maintain and treat the Poultry just right while you focus on other things. Poultry farming also joins the list of businesses you can comfortably start from home without having to bother about accommodation (or a landed space for the business).

15. Laundry/Dry Cleaning

Not very many folks have the avalanche of time and strength to maintain their clothes. This is a good thing as it ushers in the need for Drycleaning and laundry services.

Your pastoral line is compatible with this business as the majority of members patronize the services of a laundryman. You probably don’t have to do too many promos before a swarm of customers darkens the door of your laundry/dry cleaning business center.

You won’t get to do the task of washing and ironing yourself; it’s onerous. Hire staff or more to get things done – your responsibilities are largely supervisory, financial, and promotional.

16. Event Equipment Rental Business

Owning a rental service business is one of the top business ideas for pastors looking to make money while making a positive impact in their divinely fabricated gospel ministerial path.

So how it works is you acquire equipment like chairs, musical instruments, and more than spice up and make for a great event. Next up, you list them up for lease and get paid whenever clients come around to hire them.

Customers hire and return the equipment within a specific timeframe so they’re up for lease again. The equipment is always yours, but you earn from them. This way they become assets generating a steady flow of income.

Whether it’s a birthday party, an academic ceremony, a wedding, a night beach party, or a matriculation ceremony – someone gets paid for every hired piece of equipment in the scene.

You can start this business yourself as a pastor, and let the Church know about it.

The Church will mostly constitute a huge proportion of your first loyal clients regardless of the business your startup. You have leverage here. You’re trusted and it’ll be easy to scale any business you start up pretty fast. That’s Grace.

17. E-commerce Business

E-commerce websites make a lot of money. In 2020 alone, Amazon generated a net income of 21.33 billion dollars.

Your e-commerce website might not scratch 10% of that figure in the first few years, but having an e-commerce website is a step towards building a passive income empire even as a pastor.

Don’t look too far, your e-commerce website could be all about selling Church items like microphones, pulpits, and cords.

If you have a knack for multiple items, then you can integrate other niche products into your e-commerce inventory.

Starting an e-commerce website/business might cost a few hundred bucks as you’ll need to run frequent adverts or depend on a long-term content marketing strategy to build traffic, attract your target audience, and boost sales.

18. T-shirt Designing

Do you know you can design t-shirts for free and get paid when people buy your t-shirt designs? On platforms (and web apps) like Teespring, Amazon Merch, and RedBubble, you can create your fashion store stuffed with your designs.

The designs are printed on-demand which means whenever a buyer places an order for them, the company prints and sends the t-shirts.

It doesn’t cost a dime to start doing this and you can get started right now. The more designs you have, the more chances you have at making more sales and more money.

It takes about 5 minutes or 20 at most to design a virtual t-shirt (but it depends on the kind of design you have in mind; and how well you want to design your products).

19. Dropshipping

Dropshipping is not a new trend and it’s one of the top business ideas for pastors to make money in real time. How it works is you create an online store, connect it to a supplier’s website, and upload product pictures (with the prices) on your store.

Whenever someone clicks to buy, the order redirects to the supplier’s website, the supplier ships the item and you get to keep the markup profit. And yes, you don’t need to know everything about dropshipping to kickstart your side business.

You can hire someone to build your dropshipping store, design and promote it, and handle everything that has to do with the online business while you focus on other things.

If you’re still in doubt as to how well the dropshipping business is profitable for pastors (and anyone else), then the $10 million/year dropshipping story of Alexander and Andreas will set your motivation on steroids.

20. Book Publishing

It’s normal for pastors to publish books and cash in on imparting the world with their knowledge, experience, and revelation. But it’s a business idea not very many pastors consider.

And you can tap into it to create an inflow of income your generation will play benefactors to. Some of the wealthiest preachers and even motivational speakers earn a fortune from the sales of books they author.

That being said, nobody writes a book in 24 hours sitting on a comfy couch. Start by co-authoring a book or become a guest preacher/speaker for a gospel TV station/show.

Move it up to writing and publishing leaflets, pamphlets, and gospel articles. Study hard, and build enough intellectual/spiritual momentum to write your first book.

21. Stock Trading

Stock trading is one of the online businesses you can get into with very little capital as a pastor. It’s risky, volatile, and works with a set of time frames.

As the crypto market, the stock market is volatile. You work with several indicators, charts, and signals to determine the direction of the market.

The best investment, just like in crypto, is to learn the trade. Acquire the skill to trade stocks, and then you can capitalize on your experience and knowledge to maximize profits.

Conclusion: Business Ideas for Pastors

While these business ideas for pastors listed here, won’t make you as rich as Joel Osteen or T. D. Jakes overnight, they relieve you of the stress of devising uncanny schemes to sieve funds from your Church.

The best part is some of the business ideas on this list that cost nothing to start up can transition into passive income ventures generating thousands of dollars monthly for you as a pastor.

In the end, it’s all about fulfilling the call of God while making enough money (passively) to push the gospel further and live a fulfilled lifestyle.

Liquidweb Vs Nexcess: The Differences and Best Web Hosting Deals

Liquidweb vs Nexcess – Are they the same or competitors? What packages do they offer and prices?

If you’re a web designer, developer or business owner and you’re looking for the best web hosting deals on the planet, then let me introduce Liquidweb and Nexcess to you.

Liquidweb and Nexcess are both one of he most reliable web hosting products in the world.

But you might be a little bit confused if you’re seeing “Nexcess” on Liquidweb website or from the Nexcess’ logo, you see something like “A brand by Liquidweb”. Does that mean they’re the same or what?

Right in this blog post, I will tell you the little differences between these two brand names, and what best web hosting deals they offers.

What is Web Hosting?

A web hosting can simply be refers to as a service that allows webmasters, individuals like you or organizations to post or put their website (or web pages) into the internet.

It’s just like a “house” where you keep all the files, images, text, and everything on your website.

With that brief explanation, you’ll agree with me that it’s important to have a house build on good foundation, do you agree?

That’s where Liquidweb and Nexcess comes in.

Liquidweb and Nexcess as I said earlier, offers one of the most reliable and powerful strong web hosting services in the world.

But what are the differences between them?

Let’s see the differences by checking what each brand stands for, and then we will compare them afterward. I’m going with Liquidweb first;

What is Liquidweb?

Liquidweb is an IT service management and web hosting company for web designers, developers, agencies, and business owners.

Liquidweb has 3 brands under it, they are:

  1. Liquidweb itself
  2. Nexcess (which we will soon discussed)
  3. And StellarWP (for premium WordPress plugins and themes)

Liquidweb has been around for more than 20 years, and that 2 decades has been amazing experience for her customers across the world.

Try Liquidweb

According to Crunchbase, Liquidweb is part of the Madison Dearborn Partners family of companies, Madison Dearborn Partners, LLC (“MDP”).

Liquidweb was founded by Matthew Hill, but sold the company to MDP in 2015.

“MDP” is a Chicago-based prestigious company as it is recognized among the 5000 fastest-growing companies by INC. Magazine in the world.

What is Nexcess?

Nexcess is also a web hosting company, a “digital commerce cloud platform” by Liquidweb.

But Nexcess is a little (blood) brother to Liquidweb. That is, Nexcess is part of, or a brand owned by Liquidweb.

Try Nexcess

But when we say like a little brother, there must be a difference between Liquidweb and Nexcess. Right?

Liquidweb Vs Nexcess: The Difference

1.      Web Hosting Services

Liquidweb is a web hosting provider for;

  • VPS (Virtual Private Servers)
  • Dedicated servers
  • Cloud dedicated servers
  • HIPAA Compliant servers
  • Reseller Web hosting

WHILE Nexcess focuses on

  • Managed WordPress hosting
  • WooCommerce hosting
  • Magento hosting.

2.      Pricing: Liquidweb Vs Nexcess Hosting Deal

Of course, the pricing packages of Liquidweb and Nexcess are different because they offer difference web hosting packages.

But either ways, there are the best web hosting package you can get when compared to other competitors in the world.

For Liquidweb hosting packages, you can get;

  • VPS hosting package for as low as $15/month
  • Dedicated servers at $169/month
  • Cloud servers at $149/$
  • HIPAA starts at $343/month
  • Database hosting at $1,498/month
  • Server clusters at $743/month

For Nexcess web hosting packages, you can get;

  • Managed WordPress hosting package starts from $19/month
  • Managed WooCommerce Hosting at $19/month
  • Magento hosting at $49/month

These prices are very affordable compared to other competitors.

That’s the two main differences between Liquidweb and Nexcess. Check the infographic below for recap and differences;

But Is Liquidweb and Nexcess Reliable?

They’re not just one of the most affordable, but also, reliable and strong. I recommend you go for them, and you’ll never regret it.

According to a popular web hosting reviewing website, HostAdvice.com, Liquidweb is rated 9/10 which is “SUPERB”.

PCMag.com says Liquidweb got 4.0/5

Isn’t that amazing?

Here is the breakdown;

Customer Score for Liquidweb

  • Reliability – 9.2/10
  • Pricing – 8.7/10
  • User Friendly – 9.1/10
  • Support – 9.0/10
  • Features – 9.1/10

That’s actually 9.02/10 on average. Nobody is perfect, and for Liquidweb not to get the remaining 0.88 is abide with that adage.

When Liquidweb is compared to WPEngine (a competitor), Liquidweb wins.

Get Started with Liquidweb Here

What about Nexcess?

According to the same web hosting reviewing website, HostAdvice.com, Nexcess is rated 5.2/10 which is tagged “DECENT”.

Well, that’s still good but way too small above average.

When Nexcess is compared to BlueHost (a competitor), Bluehost score 4.4/10 which means Nexcess is ranked better than Bluehost.

Let’s see why Nexcess scored 5.2;

Customer Score for Nexcess

  • Reliability – 5.3/10
  • Pricing – 5.6/10
  • User Friendly – 5.5/10
  • Support – 5.4/10
  • Features – 5.3/10

That’s 5.42 overall.

Most of complaints about Nexcess is bad customer care support. Aside from that, no genuine complain and I think Nexcess (under Liquidweb) is fixing this.

One of the reasons why people love MDP and Liquidweb is because of what they invested in customer care management and Nexcess is part of the family now.

If you’ll love to use Nexcess for your next managed shared hosting, click here to get started

What to Enjoy for Using Liquidweb and Nexcess?

  1. Speed
  2. Technical support
  3. Good Uptime
  4. Reliability
  5. Powerful servers’ specifications/features.
  6. Free migration
  7. Free SSL certificate
  8. Optimized websites
  9. Thousands of themes and lot of page builders
  10. And many more such as free emails too.

Conclusion: Liquidweb Vs Nexcess – Remember this!

Liquidweb and Nexcess are good web hosting platforms, and highly recommended for business owners, web designers, developers, agencies and organizations.

They’re not just good, but they offer one of top 1% affordable and reliable web hosting services in the world with “heroic” customer support.

Loan Apps or Loan Sharks? How Fake Loan Apps are Dealing with “Poor” Nigerians

0

I don’t know maybe you have used any loan apps in Nigeria, but I’m pretty sure you’ve seen a whole lot of “Advertisement” about different loan apps on Facebook, YouTube and even on your Android phones.

Have you ever wondered why there are so many of them?

Today, you’ll see “K-cash”, later you’ll see “L-Money” and some others. It seems there’s no tight competition in the newly loan shark industry in Nigeria, as we keep seeing new platform every now and then.

But the question we need to find answer to is;

Why are there so many Loan apps in Nigeria?

The answer is simply because Nigeria is a very poor country. The poverty rate is so high to the extend that Nigeria is crowned the “poverty capital” of the world according to CNN, Quartz and some big news platforms in the world.

BorgenMagazine reported that, about 50% of Nigerians are living in “severe” poverty.

According to WorldBank, the national poverty of Nigeria was 40.1% in 2019 and we should be expecting it to jump to 45.2% in 2022. Meaning that about 100.9 million Nigerians will be in extreme poverty then.

All these reports are true!

But what’s the correlation between the poverty rate and fake Loan apps (sharks) in Nigeria?

These loan apps promised to help “poor” people with loan. So, some people who’re in need of urgent assistance will have no choice than to take the loan.

And again, over 50% of Nigerians (over 100 million people) who are in extreme poverty are in urgent need of assistance.

Because of that, millions of Nigerians who uses smartphone or internet-enabled devices are downloading instant loan apps which has a big cybercriminal known as loan sharks as facilitator.

To be honest, giving or taking loan is not bad.

But if we take a look at these numerous loan apps floating around, you’ll notice that something is suspicious and only the smart people can discern it.

Let me tell you what the Loan sharks does, then you’ll compare with these arrant loan apps in Nigeria;

How Loan Sharks Business Works

A loan shark is a person or company that lend people large sum of money at very “high” interest rate in a very short time and asks those “borrowers” to pay even before the stipulated time using violence or threat.

These Loan sharks don’t always force people to obtain loan, but their trap is always ready to catch people who need money “urgently”.

Let’s say you need about $5,000 to pay for something urgently, maybe like hospital bill, school fees, house rent or whatever. A loan shark can lend you that $5,000 and ask you to pay $10,000 within 30 days.

That’s 50% interest rate, It’s too high. But because you need money urgently, you have no choice than to take it and start living your life in fear till you pay that loan!

They can call you anytime and ask you to pay. If you don’t have money to pay, you may be threatened to be sent to prison or they may use any kind of violence. And because you don’t want trouble, you will have to start running helter-skelter in other to pay the money back.

Note that;

  • They give loan urgently
  • They have high interest rate
  • They use a kind of threat or violence to take the money back

A loan shark will tell you that they don’t need anything from you than to give them your account number, address and phone number.

How to Detect a Loan Shark or Fake Loan Apps

  • A loan shark doesn’t care if you have a job or not. They don’t care about the source of your earning
  • A loan shark business doesn’t have a physical address
  • A loan shark will pressurize you to “quickly” take the loan without any consideration’
  • Most time, the interest rates are undisclosed until the loan has been dispersed to you successfully
  • They don’t respect you. Of course, they know you are poor and have nothing to offer or do, so you’re treated like dirt

How Loan Sharks Operate in Nigeria

Most of these loan sharks in Nigeria are organized crime unit. They hide under the pretense of helping people with loan at the “most convenient” time and hour with their Loan apps.

To get loan from some of these loan sharks posing as “helpful” loan apps in Nigeria, you don’t have to visit any office, all you have to do is click few buttons, enter your account number and boom, you’re in trouble!

In Nigeria, they try to make you believe they’re operating a legal service, so these loan sharks will ask for your BVN (where they can get your personal details).

Legally, you need to go through some stages and fill forms before you can be given a loan.

Let talk about few of these loan sharks to avoid;

Loan Sharks: Fake Loan Apps to Avoid in Nigeria

  1. LCredit
  2. 9Credit
  3. 9jaCash
  4. XCredit
  5. AjeLoan
  6. Kash Kash
  7. SokoLoan
  8. ICoin
  9. HalooCredit
  10. Appannie
  11. PayLater
  12. GoCash

And many more. IF you have an experience with any one of these listed loan apps or another one that’s not listed here, kindly use the comment box below to share the story with us – help someone!

You should note that these fake loan apps in Nigeria have something in common, and that’s exactly what loan shark business is all about.

The annoying thing Loan sharks in Nigeria do

  • Let’s say Mama Ngozi want to take a loan of N100,000 from “257-CashMoney”, a loan app in Nigeria, they’ll not ask Mama Ngozi to give them her property address or use something tangible and inanimate as collateral.

But they (these fake loan apps) will instead ask Mama Ngozi to give access to her contact list which sounds too easy and nearly meaningless to her. So, she’ll grant access without thinking twice.

After gaining permission to Mama Ngozi’s contact list, these loan apps will copy the phone numbers found and save for future.

Are you thinking what they’ll use the phone numbers for?

Well, those people with the phone number copied from Mama Ngozi’s contact list are also in trouble if Mama Ngozi failed to pay the loan she took on time.

Personally, I’ve received threatening messages and calls because someone who borrowed money from them have my number on their phone.

Maybe you have received such message before.

  • Another thing is that, since these fake loan apps have access to your debit card, they can continue to remove money from your account as long as they wish.

And if there’s no money in your account, you will be threatened with police.

And remember, police in Nigeria don’t care.

There’s no way you can avoid seeing their ads, they spend lot of money on advertisements in order to ruin the poor masses. But let’s talk about different ways you can avoid their traps;

How to Avoid Loan Sharks or Fake Loan Apps in Nigeria

  • Never use any loan apps or online platform to borrow money again!
  • Learn how to save money, so you’ll not need to seek for “urgent” loan
  • If you need to take loan, go to Microfinance banks or visit your bank
  • Ask your friends or family members for help
  • If loan apps are your only option, read more online about the loan app you want to use (check some here)
  • Whenever you have money, help those around you. So that people will help you too when you need help.
  • Another best approach is to ask for recommendation
  • Don’t be too desperate to take the loan, even if it’s urgent
  • If you take loan, pay on time.

RECOMMENDED: Check Top Banks that Gives Loan in Nigeria

What if you notice you’ve fall for any fake loan apps or shark, what should you do?

What to do if You’ve fall for Fake Loan Apps

  1. Make sure you move all your money to another account as soon as you notice it
  2. If you’re too late to move your money before they start extorting you, quickly report to the crime unit of your bank with the screenshot of the debit alert
  3. Deactivate your ATM card
  4. Report the incident in a police station, give them full details of what happened
  5. Give the fake loan app negative review on Google PlayStore or Apple AppStore and raise the alert on social media
  6. Make sure you tell your friends and family members to disregard any threat from any loan agent
  7. If possible, change your SIM card for a while

CONCLUSION: Be Shrewd, Avoid Loan Sharks or Fake Loan Apps!

Like I said earlier, over 100 million Nigerians are in “severe” poverty. And these people need “urgent” help which triggered millions of people to download instant loan apps in Nigeria.

I’m not saying all Loan apps in Nigeria are fake, but most of them are!

If you put 10 loans apps in Nigeria together, you’ll discover that just 1 or 2 of them are legit.

Remember the tactics used by these fake loan apps, they will approach you with smile. But once you fall into their trap, you’re in trouble. Not only you, but also those on your contact address.

If you need loan, you should look for a microfinance bank.

By the way, do you know that most digital banks in Nigeria like KUDA Bank, VFD Bank etc., offers loan at a very low interest rate?

A good example is KUDA Bank, you can get access to overdraft (loan) and pay 0.3% every day until you pay back.

In my own case, I can get a loan worth N30,000 right now and pay N90 as interest every day.

If I will pay in the next 30 days, that’s just N2,700 interest on N30,000 per month!

You just need to be smart and avoid being desperate on “urgent” loan.

If you have had any experience with any of these loan apps, kindly use the comment box below to share with us. And don’t forget that this blog post might be a life-saver for others, kindly share with them also.

#Crimewatch: How JUMIA Scammed Me of N85,000 in a “godfearing” Way

Is JUMIA really a scam?

Maybe. But I recently have a bad experience with JUMIA which is burning me emotionally and I decided to share first of its type on this blog.

Maybe you know of this trick scammers use to lure their victim;

For instance,

  • They will tell you there’s a particular amount of money in a foreign country which they supposed to have access to. But because the owner (who’s mostly a relative) has willed all the money and properties to help those in need.

And they want you to have access to all that money. You will be happy if it was your first time seeing such message.

OR

  • Someone might just say they’re calling from your Bank because your account or ATM card has issue. And they’re ready to help you sort it out and bla bla…

THE BOTTOM LINE:

They will first act as “angel of peace”, posing to be the best in position to help you. Maybe you’ve seen such on your email address, text message or through direct phone call.

That is what most of these companies we know are doing.

At the inception of their business, they will give you every reason to trust them, they’ll convince you that they’re the best plug among others.

But once they gain that trust and stand, they will start misbehaving.

All Banks and Telecommunication companies in Nigeria are like this.

But it’s so sad to see that JUMIA has joined them!

Whenever you hear or see “JUMIA”, you think of nothing than a great shopping site disrupting African countries like Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana etc.

Same thing applies to MTN and some banks in Nigeria.

I don’t know maybe you’re a scammed victim of one or all of them, but I am.

A lot of people are victims but are ghosted or silenced because their voice isn’t deep enough to be heard. Only few people who takes their ranting to social media platforms like Twitter or Facebook got noticed and maybe helped.

I have been operating this blog for some years but after my encounter with JUMIA, VFD Bank and MTN.

I decided to add a “Crime Watch” category to speak and document our (you and I) experiences with these multinational companies, banks, Ponzi schemes and anything crime happening in Nigeria (which has been confirmed).

If you’ve been scammed by any company or anybody before, kindly share the proof (screenshots and any other proof), narrate how it happened exactly and forward to Admin (AT) olgade.com.

I will go through it and inform you if it will be published or not.

Now, let me talk about how 3 big brands scammed me in a “god-fearing” way. After this post, you can share your opinion or experience too.

Let me start with JUMIA first;

Is JUMIA Legit? How I was Scammed by JUMIA

Jumia is no doubt the top shopping sites in Nigeria.

The reason for this is because of the platform, how it is designed, you have access to almost any product you need because there are thousands of vendors and thanks to the channel of distribution at JUMIA.

With these reasons and many others, Jumia is top-rated in Africa and can boast of million of visitors (buyers) per month.

Personally, I’ve been using JUMIA for years. I liked JUMIA and recently, I wrote about money-making possibilities on JUMIA which you can also read here.

But after JUMIA gained a strong stand in Nigeria, they no longer care about trust and customer satisfaction, which were two of the main reasons why people like myself choose JUMIA.

I’ve been using JUMIA for years even till last week until they give me a reason to stop and try other shopping sites. Let me tell you what happened;

On June 13, 2020:

I decided to use JUMIA to procure an office chair. I found the type of an office chair I want to buy at the rate of N79,000 and the shipping fee was N5,970.

NOTE: The N5,970 shipping fee is ridiculously high as opposed to the N1,300 I saw before placing the order.

STRATEGY: Start checking the before and after cost of shipping fee and note if they’re extorting you here or note. The logistics part of the business is one of the ways JUMIA make money, which is okay. But always checkout for this, to avoid being extorted.

I did not care about that, what I cared for, was the actual office chair.

So, I paid the total amount of N84,970 for the chair.

The office chair should be delivered between 2-3 weeks.

On June 24, 2021:

That’s after 11 days of placing the order on Jumia, I received an email that the order has been cancelled and the refund has been completed.

According to the email, the refund can be seen in my JumiaPay account.

I was okay with that, and ready to use the refund to buy another items on the same JUMIA. But on getting to my JumiaPay account that same day, nothing is found!

“Well, maybe they sent the money to my bank account already”, that was what I thought.

Because I used WEMA Bank to pay, I will need to wait for 3-7 business days before the money will be fully reversed to my account (according to what Jumia said).

I immediately took from the money I budget to renew my house rent (which will expire of July 31st, 2021) to purchase the same office chair on HOG Furniture. And the chair was delivered in less than 5 days!

RECOMMENDED: Read my review about HOG Furniture here

I waited for 10 business days but nothing as refund in my account!

On 1st week of July, 2021:

I contacted Jumia and I was asked to contact my bank.

I contact my bank, but they keep telling me no refund has been sent to my account.

I visit the branch office of Wema Bank many times, I call the headquarters a lot of time too, but no solution.

Funny things,

  • Jumia keep telling me to wait for 48 business hours every time I contact them. But the 48 business hours they’ve been telling me has turned to 48 days!
  • I recently chatted with one of the customer care agents via live chat, she immediately ended the chat after getting my order number. I sensed maybe this is a plot between them.
  • I contacted them through email, the message was automatically closed in less than 3 seconds

I keep contacting JUMIA and WEMA bank simultaneously to get the refund as to quickly renew my house rent before it expired. But all to no avail.

On August 10, 2021:

This is now the 48th days since JUMIA said the refund has been sent to me and 59th day since I placed the order.

The 48-hours turned to 48-days ?

Well, I contacted JUMIA again and the same national anthem was sung to me again “We will get back after 24 to 48 business hours”.

But I’m tired of waiting.

Well, I’m still waiting but till date my N85,000 is gone!

My Opinion: It is either JUMIA is a now a scam or the system they use to automate their service is no longer reliable.

For instance, Quartz (here) reported that:

“The company has disclosed it recently uncovered instances of improper orders placed and subsequently cancelled on its marketplace platform wrongly inflating its order volume.”

Some of the improper sales practices, the company said, were carried out by its own personnel in “Jumia Force,” its network of commissioned agents.”

The Punchng reported the case of such fraudulent acts being pulled at JUMIA before.

What if there are still some people at JUMIA carrying out some of these scam activities.

But whatever! Either it’s an internal personnel or not, it doesn’t change the fact that my N85,000 is with JUMIA. I have contract with JUMIA as a registered business entities in Nigeria NOT an internal personnel. And that contract is breached!

I thought I was the only one facing this issue with JUMIA but I’m not. In one way or another, people has been complaining too. Check their Facebook page.

CONCLUSION: This is a personal Experience with JUMIA

In general understanding, JUMIA is still the best shopping sites in Nigeria (No cap).

But like my English Language teacher in secondary school used to tell us “The more the words, the more the mistakes”. In JUMIA context, “the more they keep growing, the more their service is regressing” and they seem not to care about this.

Let’s say like one million people visited Jumia per month, and about 700,000 people purchase at least an item. But 10,000 people are not satisfied in one way or another, the may choose not to care because they have more than 600,000 people who’s not complaining.

And that not caring is a problem to those who’re affected. Like in my own case, I had to look for a way that actually affected me before I could renew my house rent.

This is not a defamation or derogatory blog post and it’s not sponsored by anyone. But I’m actually disappointed with JUMIA as what they did extremely affected my finance management.

I don’t know who to explain to, but the best way I can reach people is through my blog. At least 1,000 people will learn from my experience. And that 1,000 will tell at least 1 person each!

If JUMIA refund me today, I’ll update this blog and let you guys know (You’ll be notified if you subscribed).

Again, if you have any experience like this with anybody or any company, kindly type, put screenshot and send to me via admin(at)olgade.com

Don’t be ghosted like that, yarn it!

How to Save in US Dollar in Nigeria – 4 Different Methods

0

Is it really possible to save in US Dollar in Nigeria?

If yes, is it legal and safe? How and where can I start? Those are the questions I’m going to answer in this blog post. But let’s start answering the first question;

Why Should I Save in US Dollar in Nigeria?

Because Nigeria inflation rate is getting worse!

Naira was one of the strongest currencies in the world, even it was once stronger than the famous US Dollar. But now, reverse is the case.

Nigerian Naira (NGN) is becoming one of the weakest (cheapest) currencies in the world.

Although Naira is not among the top 10 weakest in the world for now, but the current state of Naira is not something to be happy about. It’s affecting our cost of living.

For instance;

If you have saved N500,000 in the bank last year (2020) when $1 was N410, it simply means you saved approximately $1,220.

But now in 2021 when a US Dollar is closing at N522, that your N500,000 will now be $958 approximately.

By saving in Naira, you’ve lost about $262 which is equivalent to N136,764.

But you may be thinking that; ehn, I still have the N500,000 I saved since last year till date. Nothing has been deducted.

Yes, you’re right. That N500,000 is still there but let me tell you this;

That your N500,000 is now N363,764 ?

You can calculate that yourself using the US Dollar rate when you saved the money and the current US Dollar rate.

If a plot of land in your area cost N500,000 that last year, how much will it be by now? Probably it will increase to something close to N700,000.

Remember, you can afford to buy that plot of land for N500k last year, but now, you can’t!

Same thing applied to most thing you buy and use at home such as vegetable oil, rice, and so on. The prices are increasing every day.

Why?

Because those industries calculate their prices with respect to US Dollars’ exchange rate.

The price of everything is increasing and Nigeria’s Naira is losing its value, that’s a big disaster and the reason you should learn how to save in US Dollar in Nigeria now!

You should start saving in US Dollar as that will put you on safer side, thereby making money in the process.

The next question you might be curious about is;

Is it legal and Safe to Save in US Dollar in Nigeria?

First, it is 100% legal to save in any type of currency in Nigeria as long as you’re not scamming or engaging in money laundering.

Second, it is safe depending on which platform or how you’re saving your US Dollar in Nigeria.

Now, let’s talk about where and how you can start saving US Dollar in Nigeria.

How to Save in US Dollar in Nigeria (and Earn Money)

1.      Piggyvest FLEX Dollar

Piggyvest has been around for a while, and it’s currently the best platform to save money in Nigeria. Although there are other competitors like Cowryrise but Piggyvest seems to be undefeated.

Well, we are not here to praise Piggyvest.

But how can you save in US Dollar in Nigeria with Piggyvest?

It’s simply by using the “Flex Dollar” feature on the platform. Piggyvest’s Flex Dollar lets you save in US Dollars even though you are in Nigeria. Here is how to do it;

If you join Piggyvest with this link, I will earn N1,000 for referring you, and you’re also earn N1,000 for joining. But you must complete all registrations and start saving money before the money will be released to us.

Now, let’s talk about another way you can save in Dollars in Nigeria;

2.      Get a Domiciliary Bank Account

Getting a Domiciliary account in Nigeria is another way to save money in US Dollars.

And also, a double win for you if you will like to receive US Dollars from your family members or clients outside Nigeria.

Getting a domiciliary account in Nigeria is easy but the requirement might be a problem. For instance, some banks require minimum deposit of $100 (N52,000).

That might not be a problem tho, but you MUST bring two current account users of that bank (e.g. GT Bank, Zenith etc.) as referees.

Because of these two current account users, many of us were left with no choice than to give it up.

But oh oh, there’s a solution ?

The solution requires no minimum deposit, and you don’t need to bring any current account user.

Will you like to know?

Well, we rise by lifting others ?

How to Get Free Domiciliary Account in Nigeria

  • Open a new account at WEMA Bank;
  • Get the ALAT by WEMA app on Google Playstore;
  • Login to the ALAT app using your WEMA Bank details;
  • On the homepage, click on “Accounts”;
  • Then click on “Create Account”;
  • Finally, click on “Domiciliary Account”;
  • Click on “Proceed” and,
  • Your Domiciliary account will be created in less than a minute!

You can maintain maximum of $2,000 on the ALAT’s domiciliary account. If you think you may need more, go to WEMA Bank to lift the limit.

But isn’t that amazing? You can create a DOM account without leaving your house and it’s FREE. People sell this kind of information but to me, sharing is caring. Enjoy!

3.      Cryptocurrency (Save in USDT)

Cryptocurrency is a life saver for many of us. Although we may not be trading, but saving in cryptocurrency has been one of the passive ways to make money in Nigeria.

I’m not saying you should that saving in all other type of cryptocurrencies but if you’re looking for another good option to save in US Dollars in Nigeria, then buying and keeping USDT is the best.

What is USDT?

USDT are coins issued by Tether, currently the third largest digital coin.

USDT is just like the US Dollar, but the difference is that;

US Dollars are held by banks and can be transfer between banks to banks, use physically as means of exchange.

But USDT is a stable digital coin tied to US Dollar which can be used as means of exchange between crypto wallets ($1 = 1 USDT).

How to Save in US Dollar in Nigeria (USDT)

If you buy 100 USDT, it also means you have $100.

Currently, you can’t buy USDT from any bank (it’s a digital coin like Bitcoin). But you can buy as much as possible of USDT on almost all cryptocurrency exchange platforms.

How to Save in US Dollar in Nigeria with “USDT”

  • Use or Get a crypto exchange platform;

I recommend Buycoins, it will be very easy to add funds from your Naira bank account to Buycoins and then buy USDT.

You can use Binance too (the easier one for you).

  • On your crypto account, create USDT wallet if it hasn’t been created for you;
  • If you are using a Nigerian crypto exchange like Buycoins or Bundle, you can easily buy USDT with your bank account (Kuda, GT, Zenith, FCMB, Access are mostly accepted)
  • If you’re using an exchange platform like Binance, you will have to buy the USDT using P2P method (risky) or convert your coins like Bitcoin to USDT (if you have).
  • That’s all.

Buying and storing USDT is same as keeping the US Dollars, but can only be done on cryptocurrency wallets.

4.      Buy and Sell Foreign Currencies

This is my second-best choice when it comes to saving US Dollars in Nigeria.

All you have to do is to buy foreign currencies from those who want to sell and you keep or sell later. The reason why this is a good option is because you’ll be saving money and at the same time earn money.

Let’s say you bought $100 at the rate of N450 per dollar, that means you spent N45,000 to buy that dollars.

But later, you might sell the $100 at the rate of N470 or even N510 per dollar, that is N47,000 or N51,000… You used a stone to kill two birds; saving in US Dollar and making small profits.

Note that the earning potential here is unlimited, the more you buy, the more the profit.

I’ve once earned over N70k in a day by just buying and selling US Dollars.

This sound like what you like to do, right?

But there’s a problem.

You will need all or any of the following payment accounts;

  • PayPal
  • Skrill
  • Payoneer
  • Zelle
  • CashApp
  • Greendot

PayPal is the most famous and widely-used payment gateway in the world, then followed by Payoneer.

You can get Payoneer and Skrill in Nigeria without any issue, you need to verify with your real ID and you’re done.

RELATED: How to Get Payoneer Account in Nigeria

You can also register a PayPal account in Nigeria, but you’re only limited to receiving money. You can’t send or withdraw… such a bad thing!

But what if I show you how to create a PayPal account that can send and receive funds in Nigeria, will that be great? I have a YouTube video where I show people how to do that.

So click here to got to my YouTube channels, (and subscribe please) the video is waiting for you there.

Forget others, you can’t create an account as someone residing in Nigeria (except you do it the criminal ways).

If you have PayPal, Payoneer and Skrill accounts, you can start buying and saving US Dollars in Nigeria (and other foreign currencies like EUROS) and make money in the process.

JUST IN CASE: I buy Payoneer, PayPal and Skrill funds. CONTACT ME if you want to sell $50 minimum.

Buycoins Review: Easiest Way to Buy, Sell, Store & Trade Cryptocurrency in Nigeria

Is Buycoins legit and is it the easiest crypto exchange app in Nigeria?

Maybe at a point while surfing the internet for the best apps to buy or sell your Bitcoin and other crypto assets in Nigeria, you came across Buycoins and you’re wondering if the platform is legit or scam.

And if it’s legit, how can you buy and sell easily on Buycoins?

In this blog post, I’m going to answer these questions.

Not just that, I will also show you how you can make money on Buycoins by simply doing small tasks.

If this is the first time you’re hearing the name “Buycoins”, you may want to know what the platform is all about, isn’t it? Okay, let me give you short overview about the company.

About Buycoins

Buycoins (or Buycoins.africa) is a crypto exchange platform in Nigeria where you can buy, sell, store and even trade some cryptocurrencies such as the famous Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Ripple (XRP), Litecoin (LTC) and few others.

But Is Buycoins Legit or Scam?

Buycoins is 100% legit.

I’ve been using the platform for about 2 years and I can tell you that Buycoins is tested, and trusted.

Although before I got to know of Buycoins, I have been using Okex and Luno apps, but on getting to Buycoins, I have no choice than to fall in love with the platform.

What are the things that makes Buycoins stands out?

Pros of Buycoins: Why Should I Use Buycoins.Africa?

I’m going to make the points clear but simple. Below are the reasons why I’m using and vouching for Buycoins;

·         Clean and Easy to Navigate Website & Apps

Buycoins.Africa did a great job on the user interface (UI) and users’ experience (UX) of their products (the mobile apps and website). Everything is simple, clean and direct.

Buycoins Review

To be honest, other competitors are doing great jobs on UI/UX but the simplicity of Buycoins is on point. If you’re new to Crypto of things, you won’t get lost as the platform is self-explanatory and simple to use.

·         Easy ways of Funding Your Account

Funding your Buycoins account is very easy from day one, as you can send money from your bank account to your Buycoins generated account number (Providus).

But Remember that CBN ban banks in Nigeria against anything cryptocurrency. As a result of this ban, some exchange platforms who operates in Nigeria are faced with the issue of how their customers will be depositing funds in their account.

Fortunately, Buycoins is one of the first platforms that came with a solution. Now, you have multiple ways of funding account with Naira from your banks.

You can’t fund your account on some platform (like LUNO) till date because of that CBN ban, but that’s not the case on Buycoins.

·         Withdrawal is easy too

Just like it was easy to fund your account with Naira, you can withdraw your money in Naira on Buycoins to your Nigeria’s bank account without falling for P2P scams which frequently happen on Binance, Okex etc.

·         Customer Care Response is very Fast!

I once had issues on my account but I got them solved in the blink eyes just because of the fast customer care representative.

Till now, Kuda Bank is still ghosting me, I contacted them on Live chat, e-mail and Twitter, I’ve got no response.

Personally, I like a company who invests on their customer care team. That’s the reason I keep using JUMIA for shopping despite the frustration I’m personally facing with them.

RECOMMENDED: 5 Ways to Make Money on JUMIA

And because of fast and patient customer care support, that’s why I chose to Heroshe to ship from USA for me instead of ShopToMyDoor.

If you’re a curious person like me, and/or you want to get fast solution any issue you may face using a product or service, then you should look for a company with good and fast customer care team.

That’s why I choose Buycoins and I think you should do the same. (Click here to start)

·         The Founding Team

Well, maybe this is not necessary to you. But to me, it means a lot.

I’ve not met the founding team of Buycoins.africa face-to-face, but they’re quite famous especially on Tech twitter, Tech or Entrepreneurship News on Africa.

Timi Ajiboye, Tomiwa Lasebikan and Ire Aderinokun are the frontliner of Buycoins and other related companies. (you can google the names tho).

The founding team members are Nigerians, so they understand what we need better unlike some alien companies (other are trying too, but “Abinibi yato si Ability” – Naturality differs from Ability or artificial).

·         Ability to Trade on Buycoins

For years, we depend on using foreign platforms like Binance, Okex, Kukoin, Bitmex etc., to trade cryptocurrency.

That’s not really a problem. But the problem is “How to Easily Fund the Account”.

We know a way we use manual peer-to-peer exchange and then send to the foreign trading apps. The stress, the fees and the exuberant interface is a headache to, especially newbies.

But gladly, we can now Trade easily on Buycoins on the Buycoins Pro app.

And that’s also a milestone too. Buycoins is one of the first to Nigerian crypto’s company to achieve that. We may totally ditch the foreign apps and use Buycoins Pro to trade easily.

·         Zero Transaction Fees

If you’ve bought or made a transaction on Binance or LUNO or any other platform, you will understand what I mean. I mean the transaction fees on those apps are very high!

But on Buycoins, transactions are free!

You only pay the network fees.

I don’t need to explain too much, sign up for Buycoins and see these features yourself.

·         Reliable P2P Trading System

In cryptocurrency space, you’ll be dealing with 90% of people you don’t know if you want to buy or sell using Peer to Peer (P2P) which you can’t even escape.

While dealing with these anonymous people, you can be scammed easily. And once you’re scammed, that’s the end.

It’s unfortunate that, as big as Binance and Okex are, they haven’t curb scamming on their P2P system, which they can’t really because they can’t control the system totally (i.e. they’re decentralized).

But on Buycoins, you have nothing to worry.

Most of the buy and sell orders on Buycoins are P2P but you may not notice as everything will be taken care of, for you.

Cons of Buycoins: What are the Downsides of Buycoins?

As good as this platform is, we shouldn’t see any downside, right?

But I’m afraid to remind you that nothing is perfect in this our planet earth.

So, what are the downside of Buycoins? They are;

·         They Still Need to List Some Coins!

I don’t know the processes behind listing coins on both exchange or trading platforms. But whatever the processes are, I know they’re not easy.

Maybe that’s why there are not enough coins listed on Buycoins.

But popular coins like BTC, ETH, LTC, XRP, USD Coin and USDT are there. And recently, the likes of DOGE, Chainlink, Cardano, Stellar, Binance Coin are added.

I know as times goes on, Buycoins will have lot of listed coins like Binance.

·         Not all Nigerian Banks are supported

We have more than 20 banks in Nigeria, but you can only fund or withdraw to less than 10 banks.

Nigerian Banks available for Deposit and Withdrawal on Buycoins

  1. GT Bank
  2. Kuda Bank
  3. Access Bank
  4. FCMB
  5. ALAT (WEMA Bank)
  6. Abeg App
  7. Fidelity Bank
  8. Diamond Bank (Acquired by Diamond Bank tho)
  9. Zenith Bank

If you’re not using any of these banks, then you can’t fund or withdraw with Naira. ☹️

But the good news is that, you can easily join the Abeg App or Kuda Bank easily.

That’s it about Buycoins.

Now back to the previous question; is Buycoins the Best in Nigeria; Is it legit or scam?

Buycoins is the easiest exchange app in Nigeria, it is the best and it is 100% legit!

If by now you’re interested in using Buycoins, the next question you may want to find answers to is;

How to Get Started on Buycoins?

  1. Click here to sign up for FREE;
  2. Put a correct email address and click on “continue”;
  3. A verification link will be sent to that email address, to and verify;
  4. Login to your Buycoins account;
  5. Upgrade your account (Click on “Verify Identity”): Add Bank account, BVN and Phone Number;
  6. Set up 2-FA for security sake;
  7. You can now deposit and start using Buycoins!

Important Notice:

  • First, your BVN is safe; It’s just to verify your information.
  • Make sure you add all your bank accounts (linked with your BVN)
  • Make sure you deposit ONLY from your bank accounts added.
  • If you mistakenly deposit from any other bank, your account will be locked and you’ll need to do another verification to unlock it. Hence, add all your account numbers and only deposit from your added account numbers.
  • You can only withdraw to your added accounts number too (if available for withdrawal).
  • For easily transactions, download and use the mobile apps

I told you earlier that I will show you how to make money on Buycoins right? Let me fulfil that promise now ?

3 Ways to Make Money on Buycoins Africa

1.      P2P Trading

You can buy coins at low price and sell at higher price on Buycoins’ P2P trading platform.

Let’s say you have N100,000 in your bank and the current BTC price is $41,000. You can buy N100k worth of BTC and quickly sell on P2P maybe when BTC hit $42k.

That’s called swing trade. You might not make big money, but you will definitely see earn few bucks

2.      Coin Lock

Aside from quickly buying and selling coins on the P2P platform, you can also earn money by locking your coins for a certain period of time.

Let’s say you’re saving in Ethereum. Instead of just stacking Ethereum like that, you can lock it and earn money.

You’ll earn 12% interest of whatever you locked.

If you locked N100k, 12% interest on it is N12,000!

3.      Buycoins’ Refer and Earn Program

This is another sure way to make money on Buycoins, all you have to do is refer your friends to join Buycoins and when do they that, you’ll be paid N1,000 for each person.

Buycoins - Referral Apps to Make Money in Nigeria

If you’re able to refer like 20 people, that’s N20,000 for you.

NOTE: Those people you referred must complete their sign up, deposit at least N5,000 and trade up to N10,000 on Buycoins before the money can be released to you.

How to Make Money on Jumia – 5 Legit and Easy Ways!

Is it really possible to make money on Jumia?

If you’re not tech-savvy or doesn’t know how making money online work, you may be doubting if it’s really possible to make money on shopping stores like Jumia. But I’m using this medium to tell you that it’s possible; you just need to be smart (but in an honest way ?).

So, how can you make money on Jumia?

That’s what this blog post is all about, I will share with you 5 ways you can make money by simply shopping on Jumia! Let get into it;

About Jumia

Jumia is the largest online shopping platform in Nigeria, and currently dominating Africa’s eCommerce marketplace. They offer affordable shipping fee and there are thousand of trusted merchants and vendors on Jumia.

Big companies like Xiaomi, Samsung, Tecno and many others have an official store on Jumia, where customers can shop for their products at more discounted rate.

For years, Jumia has been building the platform on a solid foundation and the end result is many people choosing Jumia over other competitors like Konga, Jiji etc.

But most of these people who chose to shop for items on Jumia are unaware of the fact that they can earn money on Jumia (easily)!

No further ado, let’s talk about making the money on Jumia!

NOTE: This blog post is quite long (more than 2,000 words). Will you like to watch the video instead? Watch video below;

5 Ways You Can Make Money on Jumia and How They’re DONE

1.      Jumia Affiliate Program (KOL)

Jumia affiliate program is one of the top affiliate programs to make money in Nigeria, because they pay pretty well for their affiliates.

But how does Jumia affiliate program work and how can I start?

Jumia affiliate program work just like any other affiliate programs you’re familiar with. But in case you don’t know what affiliate marketing work, let me summarize it for you below;

Affiliate marketing is a business pattern where you help companies (or brands) to market or promote their products or services and at the end, you earn “commission” just to compensate you for your hard work.

Let’s say there’s a Hisense TV on Jumia that costs N120,000 and the affiliate commission on the TV is 15%, it simply means if you promote the Hisense TV and luckily, someone purchased the TV through your link, Jumia will pay you 15% of N120,000 which is how much? Press your calculator ?

Okay, 15% of N120,000 is N18,000.

That’s how much you’ll be paid as a Jumia affiliate for promoting and selling that product!

Imagine if just 2 people buy the TV in a month, that’s N36,000 for you.

Note that I just used the Hisense TV as example. As a Jumia affiliate partner, you can promote any product on Jumia and make money.

Let me use this opportunity to tell you that affiliate marketing is one of the top 10 ways to make money online. If you want to know how it really work, read this blog post on affiliate marketing.

The next question you should be asking is;

How can I promote Jumia products and make money?

Simply! Just follow the steps below;

  1. Sign up for Jumia affiliate program (KOL) here: https://www.jumia.com.ng/sp-jumia-affiliate/
  2. Enter all necessary details (I trust you can do this)
  3. Look for products you’ll like to promote on Jumia, copy the link
  4. Go back to your Jumia’s KOL dashboard and paste the product link there (you’ll see where to do it)
  5. After you paste the link in the input box via your KOL dashboard, your affiliate link will be generated for you.
  6. Share the affiliate links and recommend the products to your friends or family members who may like that product. Proceed to share on social media channels like WhatsApp, Facebook, Quora, Nairaland etc.
  7. If you’re a blogger, put your affiliate banners on your blog. Keep looking for what people will love to buy, search for the product on Jumia, copy the link to generate your affiliate link in your KOL dashboard and promote!

Look, the steps might look too easy to be true, but let me tell you that it’s not easy and it’s TRUE that you can make money on Jumia through its affiliate program.[

You just need to learn how to do affiliate marketing and trust me, you’ll make lot of money with the knowledge.

That’s one! Let’s about the next;

2.      Jumia’s JForce Program

This look like the first one, but slightly different.

With Jumia KOL affiliate program, you make money when someone click on your affiliate link and proceed to buy that product. But what if you know someone who want to order for something online but doesn’t know how?

Do you know you make money on Jumia by helping someone (or people) to shop for items on Jumia at no EXTRA cost?

Even you can buy items for yourself on Jumia and still make money.

Ask me how?

Well, that’s where Jumia’s JForce comes into play.

With Jumia’s JFORCE, you can earn minimum of N1,000 on every N5,000 order.

Personally, I’ve shopped for items on Jumia worth N200,000 this year and I’m still going to shop more. Now, assuming that I’m on JFORCE program, how much do you think I would have made by simply shopping on Jumia?

N1000 for every N5000 order, remember?

So, on N200,000, I would have made whopping N40,000! But you’re not going to be buying N200k products on Jumia every month to make N40k.

So, how can you make money on Jumia with JFORCE program? Here’s how;

How to Make Money on Jumia with JFORCE program

  1. Join the Jumia JFORCE program: https://jforce.jumia.com.ng/
  2. Fill all the details (your correct names, email, phone number, and bank details)
  3. Start shopping on Jumia with your JFORCE account and earn money in return!
  4. That’s all.

But let me give you a strategy if you really want to turn this to a business;

You can always tell people through your WhatsApp statuses, Facebook, mouth-to-mouth or any other way you know, that you can help them shop for their items on Jumia for FREE.

You can even offer then N500 airtime if they choose order the items through you. You just need to build your brand, be trusted and convince them to trust you.

Note that this is 100% LEGAL! There’s a reason why Jumia created JFORCE program; It’s simply because not everybody knows how to shop online (but they want to).

The next is;

3.      Procurement Services

This is another viable way to make money on Jumia!

Procurement service is also 100% legal and some agencies are into this particular business only. For instance, when I want to buy an item from USA, I used a procuring agent who bought the item on my behalf and send to the company that will ship it to me.

Just in case you want to know how to buy items from USA and shipping to Nigeria, read how I did mine successfully with Heroshe here.

Now, back to how you can make money procuring items on Jumia. How does it work?

Well, it works like JFORCE but slightly different.

On JFORCE, you’re buying the items for someone on JUMIA at no extra cost to them, JUMIA will personally compensate your hard work.

But on Procurement service, it works different. You’ll charge a certain amount of money for helping the person to order the items (if the person comes to you him/herself ni o).

It happens! A lot people would like to buy something online but don’t know how, or as a result of technical issue, they may not be able to pay with their cards. Then they’ll be looking for someone to help them place the order.

That’s where you come in!

You can help these people and charge them small amount of money.

For instance, you can charge 10% on total order, which is pretty good and affordable.

Let assume that the person wants to buy an item that cost N5,000, you can charge 10% and that’s N500 for you.

You may be thinking what will N500 do for you, but hey, that’s just an assumption. Some people order for items work N100k, N200k and so on.

If you charge 10% on items worth N100k, that’s N10,000 for you without leaving home. All you need to do is to get the name(s) of the item, search on Jumia, confirm and buy. That’s all. I trust you won’t use up to 50MB which is not even up to N200.

So, you can make money on Jumia by offering procurement services.

Do we still have another way to make money on Jumia? Yes!

4.      Become a Vendor on Jumia

Honestly, I don’t know how this work as I’m not a vendor and neither do I know anyone who’s a vendor.

But in my own little experience, let me tell you one or two things about making money as a vendor on Jumia.

First, who’s a vendor?

A vendor is simply someone (or company) who sells products on a particular marketplace.

And we have a lot of “multi-vendor” marketplace which you know such as Amazon, AliExpress, Konga, JUMIA and lot of them.

Without people or agents coming to these platforms to sell their products, there’s no way Jumia, Amazon and the rest of the multivendor marketplace will exist. They exist to bring sellers and buyers together.

So, if you have anything to sell online, use JUMIA! They have the visibility to make you sales.

If you’re a fashion designer, boutique owners, you sell any shippable items, why can’t you join Jumia as a vendor and start making money when your items are purchased by someone.

Like I said earlier, I don’t have the idea of how much JUMIA make per your item purchased, but I’m sure you’ll get to know when signing up as a vendor.

Here is where to sign up as a vendor on Jumia;

How to Become a Seller on Jumia

  1. Sign up here: https://www.jumia.com.ng/sp-marketplace-vendor/
  2. Fill all forms correctly with your details
  3. Complete the onboarding training
  4. List your products and start selling!

Okay, any other way to make money on Jumia? I got another one, the last one!

5.      Become a Delivery or Pickup Station Agent

I don’t have much information about this, but I know it’s possible and a viable way to make money on Jumia.

The first part is by becoming a delivery agent.

This can be kind of stressful as I’m sure you’ll be scrutinized thoroughly before you can be accepted. The reason is simply because they need someone who can be trusted with customers’ items.

If you’re interested and you have all necessary documents and referees to tender, you can contact JUMIA via this email address and ask them directly or check below;

How to Join Jumia as Delivery or Logistics Agent

  1. Sign up here: https://jumia_form.formstack.com/forms/3pl_interest_registration_en
  2. complete the form and submit
  3. Expect feedback from JUMIA.

The second part is by becoming a pickup station agent.

Jumia has lot of pickup stations across the country and I’m sure they need more of those local offices.

For example, I remember about 2 years ago, there is no pickup station in my City, I used to travel down to another City to get my items. But now, Jumia pickup stations in my place are more than 3.

Jumia want to expand their reach to lot of customers in many different places in your country and City. You can apply to become an agent.

Requirement to Become Jumia Pickup Station Agent

  • 1000sqft dedicated space for Jumia in your facility
  • Dedicate one person who will be running the Pick Up Station
  • Ready to Brand your Location and Staff
  • Delivery Van and 4 motorbike Riders (Only for existing Logistics companies)
  • 5 sales agents to help drive sales in the region

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Kindly note that these requirements might have changed, so I’ll advice you to contact JUMIA for more information about this.

Be informed that you might be required to submit some official documents before you can become one of their agents.

So, that’s it on How to Make Money on Jumia

All the 5 different ways listed here are working, you just need to get to work if you reason want to make your own. Remember that it might not be easy but if you master them as a real business and you’re consistent, you’ll be glad you did.

Can I make money on Jumia?

Yes! You can choose to do any or all of the following;

  1. Jumia KOL affiliate program
  2. Jumia’s JFORCE program
  3. Procurement services
  4. Become a vendor
  5. Become a Delivery/Pickup station agent.

HOG Furniture Review: Trusted Online Shopping Store?

Few weeks ago, I was trying to get a particular office chair for my workspace, then I stumbled on HOG Furniture. Just like you, I was doubting if HOG Furniture is reliable or not; as I’m pretty much familiar with the likes of Jumia and some other shopping stores in Nigeria.

Finally, I took the risked, placed an order and pay for the office chair.

But with respect to my experience in online shopping, and with HOG Furniture, is the company really the best online shopping store for furniture or homewares in Nigeria as they claimed?

I will answer that question right in this blog post.

But kindly note that this is not a sponsored post and I’m not promoting HOG Furniture. I’m just sharing what I’ve personally experienced.

Now, let’s start!

About HOG Furniture

HOG Furniture website

HOG Furniture is an online shopping store in Nigeria, primarily dedicated to home and office wares.

In simple term, the company deal with selling of stuffs like chairs, table, desk, cabinets, wardrobe, rug, carpet etc. And one more thing;

They also deal with Auctioning, cleaning and maintenance services.

Benefits of Using HOG Furniture

  • Competitive and Affordable price
  • Fast shipping
  • Fast customer care response
  • Anyone can become a vendor
  • You can refer people and earn money
  • Flexible payment options
  • 7-days refund policy (too low tho)
  • You can get discount
  • etc.

Is HOG Furniture Legit or Scam?

HOG Furniture is legit. They are in business since 2009, that’s about 12 years (as at the time of writing this blog post). They have no record of scam.

If you’ve been scammed by HOG Furniture in one way or another, kindly use the comment box below to share your story with us and we will be glad to publicize it in order to save someone outside there.

But personally, I have no issue of scam with HOG Furniture.

How to Buy Stuffs on HOG Furniture

  1. Visit their website: https://hogfurniture.com.ng/
  2. Sign up and complete your profile
  3. Search for, and add your product to Cart
  4. Proceed to Pay
  5. After payment, wait for your items to be delivered to you.

That’s pretty eazzy, isn’t it?

But I will advise you to chat with them first before you place order. Before I placed my order, I had to chat with them on WhatsApp to know the shipping process and some other questions.

ALSO READ: How to Buy and Ship from USA Store to Nigeria

Now, let’s talk about HOG Furniture if they’re really the best online shopping store for furniture in Nigeria.

Is HOG Furniture the Best Online Shopping Store in Nigeria?

Well, I can’t categorically say YES or NO. But to be honest, they’re trying.

If they’re not the best, they should be among the top 5 in homeware or furniture store in Nigeria (as you know we have the likes of popular sites like Jumia, Konga and Jiji).

But notwithstanding, below are what I experienced with HOG Furniture;

Pros of HOG Furniture

1.      Good Customer Care Support:

I ask questions a lot, especially if we’re dealing for the first time. The response rate of the support team is fast. And you have a flexible way of chatting with them, which is through “WhatsApp”.

They also follow up by calling you.

2.      Affordable Shipping Fee:

Their shipping fee is not expensive, but I won’t tell you how much they charge as the fee is not fixed, it varies with respect to how heavy your item is, and how far your location is.

SO, I’ll advise you to talk to the customer care rep to know your standing here.

3.      Fast Delivery

This is what I really like the most of all the reasons why I like HOG furniture.

Let me confess this;

Before I ordered for my office chair on HOG Furniture, I have earlier ordered for the same chair on Jumia, I waited for about 11 days for it to be delivered. Unfortunately, Jumia cancelled the order without any reason given.

I mean, after waiting for 11 days!

Well, I went to HOG Furniture, placed order for the same office chair and after 4 days, I got my chair!

4.      Large Inventory of Items

You have thousands of items available for you.

Okay, let’s me also talk about the downside which I hate;

Cons of HOG Furniture

1.      Bad Delivery Handling

This really got me annoyed.

I expected HOG Furniture to be able to handle Delivery without stressing the customer (just like how Jumia and co does).

The day when they told me the items will be delivered to me elapsed without getting the item, that doesn’t annoy as I believe maybe something happened. So, I was expecting it another day.

Then suddenly one day, a man called me, telling me to come “immediately now” for my package because he’s going out.

And I was in the middle of an important meeting when he called.

He should have informed me in the morning before he got to my place. Well, I left the meeting and rushed to pick the items and I thought 30 minutes will be okay for me to take leave and return to the meeting later.

After getting to the pickup destination, the man asked me to pay for delivery before I pick the item.

I’ve paid for everything including the delivery fee, why do I need to pay again?

I had to call HOG Furniture to sort it out.

They delayed me for more than an hour there, before HOG Furniture send the delivery money to the driver.

Imagine what I lose that day because of poor delivery handling by HOG Furniture.

They should have:

  • Inform me earlier before the delivery agent got to my place
  • They should have paid the delivery fee and not waste my time with that.

I don’t know why they can entrust package worth N85,000 to a driver and can not entrust him with just N5,000 for delivery.

HOG furniture needs to fix this!

2.      Incomplete Package

Buying an office chair from HOG Furniture was not my first-time buying office chair. And I know what must be included in the package.

Maybe it was a mistake or intentional, I didn’t receive the Manual to install the chair, L and key screwdriver to assemble and tighten the chair.

With these two important items missing, I got annoyed too.

But they later send some DIY videos to replace manual, but I have to look for the “scarce” L and Key screwdriver myself.

HOG Furniture needs to be sure they package the complete items together before sending it out for shipping.

3.      Low ratings on products

You know rating is very important, that will help you make decision judiciously. But the products on HOG Furniture website has very low rating, and that may confuse you on knowing a trusted merchant or a scammer.

Maybe this is not HOG Furniture’s fault. Most people don’t care about dropping review unless the product come short of their expectation.

BUT they should try and get ratings and reviews, it builds trust!

So, Is HOG Furniture the Best in Nigeria When it comes to Furniture?

With the personal experience I shared above, I can’t really say.

And don’t be discourage, HOG Furniture is legit and their delivery is very fast. They just annoyed me slightly with the poor delivery handling stuff.

If you want to buy any item on HOG, go ahead.

If I were to rate them, I will give them 7/10. They should work on getting better.

In the future, I will still buy item(s) from HOG Furniture and see if they’ve improved or not; by then, I’ll update this blog post with my experience.

So here you go, HOG Furniture is still one of the top 5 online stores for Furniture in Nigeria!

Heroshe Review: How to Buy and Ship from USA to Nigeria

Do you want to know if Heroshe is affordable, legit, or a scam?

Or maybe you want to know how you can buy (items) and ship from the USA to Nigeria with ease using Heroshe to bridge the gap, then this blog post is for you.

Before we go into the review and how to buy/ship from the USA to Nigeria, kindly note that I’m writing not from a “mere” perspective or online review. But I’m writing about my personal shopping experience from the USA to Nigeria with Heroshe.

Heroshe, Heroshe… If this is your first time hearing that name, you may be wondering if it’s the name of a person or company. And if it’s a company’s name, what do they do in particular?

Okay, I got you! Let me use this opportunity to introduce you to Heroshe;

About Heroshe

Heroshe is a logistics company that helps in the procurement and shipping of items from the USA to Nigeria.

To break it down, Heroshe can help you buy items from any USA stores like eBay, Amazon, etc., and help you get the purchased items to Nigeria (Lagos state warehouse or your immediate city).

Heroshe - Get USA Address in Nigeria

If you have had trouble getting some items from the USA before, Heroshe promises to make your next shipping a good and worthy experience.

Benefits of Using Heroshe

  • Free USA address that can be used as the delivery address on any store
  • Free $2 or N1,000 when you sign up
  • Fast shipping
  • Affordable shipping
  • Good tracking system
  • Back-to-Back follow-ups via email

But is Heroshe a Scam or Legit?

Without mincing a word, Heroshe is legit!

Hey… hey, you’re thinking that the answer should be “maybe” just like other reviews about Heroshe says. I’m not going to follow that trend, I’ll just say the truth because I’ve tested Heroshe and I now trust them.

This is not a sponsored post, but speaking from my experience with them.

Before I started using Heroshe, I tried different logistics companies to help me procure and ship my items from the USA to Nigeria, but in one way or another, I regret because they lacked something, that Heroshe doesn’t.

If you’re thinking of using Heroshe for your next shipping from the USA to Nigeria and you don’t know how I highlight 11 simple steps to use Heroshe; either for the Buy for Me service, Ship for Me service, or BOTH. But now, let’s talk about why think Heroshe is the best so far;

Heroshe Review: Features that Make Heroshe Stands Out?

When I compare Heroshe with other companies that have used or tried to use, I found out that Heroshe is best, and here is why;

1.      UI/UX: Clean and Easy to Navigate Website

Heroshe’s website is clean, easy to navigate, and very responsive.

Unlike a logistics website I visited, they are showing a desktop view on mobile, which is annoying. Imagine how you will need to use your fingers to enlarge before you can see the text on the website.

And some websites have annoying pop-ups.

While another has a lot of information squeezed on the homepage (and in smaller font sizes).

On Heroshe’s, you won’t miss your way as everything on their website is perfectly worded and arranged. No long text or confusing pages. The website is just straightforward.

2.      Live Chat Support

I’m the kind of someone who asks questions a lot and my curiosity must be satisfied before I proceed on doing something.

Some companies use email or phone calls for their customer support service but they forget to realize that the live chat option is very powerful!

Heroshe got a win here.

I’m not guaranteeing that you will get a quick response within 5 minutes because the time zone of the available customer care or sales rep may be different from yours, but I know they reply as soon as possible.

3.      Responsive Customer Care Service

I was eventually thinking of using ShopToMyDoor (ShipToNaija) to procure and ship my items from the USA to Nigeria, but to be honest, their customer care service is horrible.

I don’t know maybe they thought I was joking or not serious, but they snubbed me for weeks even though I was chatting with them on WhatsApp (as that’s their official place to converse with customers).

The snubbing hits me hard to be sincere.

I immediately got to Heroshe, asked my questions on Live Chat and I received responses. I was then onboarded by the customer rep till I finally agreed to go with Heroshe.

For customer care service, Heroshe is your best plug if you need a company to help you buy and ship from the USA to Nigeria.

4.      Affordable Shipping Fee

When I say affordable, I don’t mean Heroshe is the “cheapest” but their price is reasonable.

And that raises the question;

How much does Heroshe Charge for Shipping?

Heroshe charges $8 (or its equivalent in NAIRA) per Lbs. to ship from the USA to Nigeria.

But that’s just the shipping fee from their USA warehouse to the Nigeria warehouse which is in Lagos state. If you reside in Lagos, you can visit Heroshe’s warehouse to pick up your items for FREE.

If you’re not in Lagos state and you want to pick up your items in your town or city, you will pay an additional $20 for that. And your items will be waybill from Lagos to your place (either Ekiti or Kaduna).

But note that the $8 shipping fee from the USA to Nigeria is not fixed as some items may attract additional fees (They’ll let you know if you need to pay more).

How many days does Heroshe Shipping take?

According to Heroshe, it will take 8-14 days after the items have been delivered to their USA warehouse and your shipping payment.

But hey, it’s not so!

My items got to their USA warehouse on June 28th and I paid for the shipping on the same day but received them on July 22nd. Well, that’s about 24 days.

Well, I don’t know the reason why it was like that, but I can guess maybe weekends and holidays are not included in their “8-14 days”.

But anyways, I got my items intact.

Now, the last reason feature;

5.      Flexible Payment Options

If you want to pay for your items and shipping fee with your ATM card, you can easily do that on Heroshe’s website using the Paystack payment gateway.

You can also pay using PayPal which is a great deal for people like me.

Note that you can’t pay for your items on Amazon directly with PayPal, but if you use the “Heroshe: Buy for Me” service, you’ll just pay Heroshe with PayPal and they’ll help you sort it out.

Which one is “Heroshe: Buy for Me”? okay, let’s talk about it

Heroshe Services

Kindly note that Heroshe offers two different services which you need to be aware of, they are;

  1. Heroshe: Buy for Me
  2. Heroshe: Ship for Me

Although the services are self-explanatory, let me say something about them just in case you need clarification.

·         Heroshe: Buy for Me

Let’s say your card is declined when you try to checkout or complete payment on any USA store (which happens), or you want to pay using other methods such as PayPal, you can use the Heroshe “Buy for Me” service and Heroshe will help you procure the items on your behalf.

You will send the money to them, they’ll help you buy the items.

How much does Heroshe charge for procurement or the “Buy for Me” service?

Heroshe charges 20% of whatever you’re paying for the items.

Let’s say the total item you want to buy costs $200, you’ll pay them an additional 20% of $200 which is $40. Which means, you’ll pay a total of $240.

Or let’s say you’re dealing with Naira, your total items cost N100,000, you’ll pay an additional N20,000 (20% of 100k), and that totaled to N120,000.

Pretty cool for me tho.

Contact the customer care rep before you use this service, because in my own case, it was slightly different.

·         Heroshe: Ship for Me

This is another service which you’ll need to pay for.

They’ll help you ship your items from the USA to Nigeria and it costs $5 per pound or $5 per 0.545Kg.

heroshe pricing

Kindly note that Heroshe rounds up number(s) to the nearest whole number. For instance, 6.3kg will be 7kg, 12.7kg will be 13kg, and so on.

Also note that the shipping fee you’re paying covers VAT, Customs duties, clearing fees, and taxes.

Which to me it’s affordable.

After your package is delivered to Nigeria, you can go and pick it up for free in Lagos or pay an additional $10 for Home (Door to door delivery).

Now, let’s talk about how to get your items from the USA to Nigeria with Heroshe!

Heroshe: How to Buy and Ship from USA to Nigeria

(Note: You can sign up with Google, it’s very fast and easy).

  2. After verifying your account, sign in to your dashboard
  3. Update your personal data: Go to “Settings” >> “Profile”

(You have a USA address when you sign up successfully, all you have to do is copy the address and save it somewhere)

  1. Buy your items:

Go to any USA store you like, such as Amazon, and sign up (or login), on your profile settings, change the address to the one on your Heroshe dashboard.

Note: You need to use your REAL name on the USA store, only the address will change to the one given to you by Heroshe.

After you’ve bought your items and paid, the store will send those items to your USA address (Heroshe warehouse in the USA) and you’ll follow up with the tracking ID and your dashboard.

  1. If you can’t pay for the items in the USA store, use Heroshe Buy for Me service

Note that, you’ll pay an additional 20% of what you’re buying as explained above.

(NOTE: Contact the customer care rep before you use this service)

  1. Be patient for the USA store

After placing your order(s) successfully on the USA store (let’s say AMAZON.com), you will have to wait till they deliver the items to the Heroshe warehouse.

You can track the items using the tracking ID given to you. (In my own case, I didn’t track)

  1. Verify if the items reach Heroshe

Go to your Heroshe dashboard after 48 hours of placing the order on the USA store, and click on “Shipment” to see if the items you ordered, are there. If they’re there, go to the next step;

  1. Pay for your shipping;

Heroshe will help you calculate the weight and cost, then you’ll pay for the shipping.

To pay, go to Heroshe Dashboard, then to “Wallet”, and click on “Add money” to pay with your ATM card (powered by Paystack), or with PayPal.

After you pay for the shipping, Heroshe will send an invoice to you immediately which you’ll see in the email address registered with Heroshe.

  1. Start counting days;

Wait for your items to be shipped to Nigeria and pick them up at the Heroshe Lagos warehouse for FREE or, if you’re not in Lagos, don’t forget to pay for an additional $10 (Home delivery) while paying for the shipping (at Number 8).

  1. If you pay for home delivery, someone (which can be a DHL or FedEx agent) will call you when your item gets to your area (town or city). Go and pick it up
  2. Happy shopping!!!

So, that’s simply the steps to Buy and Ship from the USA to Nigeria using Heroshe.

Other Things You Need to Know About Heroshe

Heroshe is against fraud.

So, if you’re thinking of scamming someone maybe by luring someone to use his/her credit card to buy items in a USA store for you, and Heroshe will ship to you here in Nigeria, then you’ve got the wrong idea as you’ll be arrested.

So, that’s all about Heroshe and its Review

Top 5 Business Movies Every Entrepreneur Should Watch for Inspiration

Will these business movies really inspire or motivate me? Let me ask you: Are you inspired by how successful entrepreneurs and founders like Mark Zuckerberg, Steven Jobs and others are able to build a strong multi-billion dollar business?

If yes, that means you’re really going to be inspired watching these 5 recommended business movies aligned below.

But why business movies and not books like “Rich Dad Poor Dad”?

Most times, you need to watch some business movies as an entrepreneur in order to virtualize (or see) the concept and how a business strategy is pulled in the move and gain inspiration.

Movies have been around for decades and have continued to grow and get better in terms of quality. While they were originally set out to entertain, movies now educate, inform, tell a story, or even foretell scientific advancements.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve learned a lot from movies and that has shaped my life to be what it is today. This is why I decided to share some business movies to kindle that entrepreneurial spirit in you. You would love them!

1. The Wolf of Wall Street

Starring Leonardo DiCaprio as Jordan Belfort, The Wolf of Wall Street is a story of a young man struggling with his finances, but then a timely swing of events, plus determination, propelled him to one of the top guns in Wall Street.

Jordan begins to work as a broker in L.F. Rothschild. In no distant time, he assumes the lifestyle of a conventional broker. It was all fun till he lost his employment following a Black Monday event which caused a significant drop in the prices of stocks. Not giving up, he takes up a job in a firm that invests in small stocks. He’ll soon make a fortune due to his persuasive pitching style before moving to start his brokerage firm.

Jordan Belfort starts his new firm alongside his friend Donnie Azoff. He then employs some of his friends and trains them in his persuasive style of pitching otherwise known as “hard sell”. Jordan, alongside his workers, begin using deceptive measures to make money off unsuspecting clients.

He transcends into a flamboyant lifestyle where he also engages in drugs and prostitutes. He is soon made out and the intelligence agencies are on his neck. Jordan tries to conceal his illegal dealings by opening a Swiss account in the name of his wife’s aunt. During this period, the authorities get hold of some of his friends who wouldn’t speak at first.

It’s been over two years and his business is down while trying to save his name. But he’s soon caught after a connection to his friend who was already arrested sold him out.

This business movie (The Wolf of Wall Street) teaches entrepreneurs about the dynamics of moving from small to making it big. It pinpoints the risks you’ll have to take and the accompanying consequences (good or bad).

2. The Social Network

The social network is the biographical story of Facebook’s founder and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg. Neither Mark nor any of Facebook’s staff is present as cast as all characters are fictional.

The Facebook founder is played by Jesse Eisenberg who is a young Harvard University student with a love for computers. To soothe the pain of being dumped by his girlfriend, Jesse takes to his LiveJournal Blog to create a post insulting his girlfriend.

He then goes on to create a website called Facemash. The website was created by hacking into the school’s database to steal photos of female students. Jesse aimed to allow students to rate the attractiveness of these females. But his exploits will result in the crash of the school’s network due to a huge influx of traffic. Jesse is given 6 months probation.

But Facemash’s popularity attracts the attention of the Winklevoss twins who then approach Jesse to help build a site to be named “Havard Connection.” The site would be a social network connecting Havard students who are interested in relationships and dating.

But Jesse had other plans. He came up with his idea of a similar social media website but in his case, it was meant for Ivy League students. To bring this to life, he approached his friend Eduardo Saverin who then provides $1000 in seed funding for the website called “The Facebook”

The website soon became popular and grew exponentially. But this infuriated the Winklevoss twins who believed that ‘Thefacebook’ came from their idea. Several court visits ensued as both the Winklevoss twins and Saverin laid various accusations on the Facebook founder.

After wide acceptance from students in just a few months, the site was made accessible to other top European Universities. Soon, it was made available for everyone worldwide. And the rest, they say, is history!

3. Jobs

The movie Jobs was shot in 2013 and tells the story of a Reed University dropout, Steve Jobs who went on to become the founder of the biggest technology firm in the world today — Apple.

The movie begins with Jobs introducing the iPod at an Apple Town Hall event. Before that, a flashback of events shows how young Jobs which was played by Ashton Kutcher, drops out of college due to high tuition. He then goes on an intellectual adventure to India before returning to LA where he began working as a video game developer.

Jobs soon teams up with his friend Steve Wozniak to keep making video games. They went from making video games to now fixing and producing computer hardware components. Jobs then discovers a prototype computer built by Wozniak and is interested in making money from it.

They both founded their company which went by the name Apple Computer. The company keeps growing even though other competitors like Macintosh gave Apple a run for their money. New board members are soon elected including a CEO, John Sculley. Jobs is intoxicated by the fame and power and soon begins to fire his workers with reckless abandon.

The board grows tired of Jobs’ notorious attitude and is soon freed of his duties by the CEO.

But Jobs will return to become the next CEO after getting married. He then ensures that computers should be easy to use and build a brand around them. The brand will go on to be one of the biggest and the best technology firms in the years that followed.

This business movie (Jobs) set out to teach entrepreneurs the importance of creating value and the ins and outs of customer relations. The dynamics of being at the helm of affairs and staff relations.

4. The Founder

The Founder is another biographical American drama that tells the founding story of McDonald’s and how it became so popular that it now feeds approximately 1% of the world’s population daily. In this nearly 2 hours biographical drama, Ray Kroc, founder of McDonald’s is portrayed by Michael Keaton.

Set in 1954, Ray is a traveling milkshake seller who has just the right amount of money to cater for his wife and pay off his bills and nothing more. Not satisfied by his current state of finances, Ray begins to look for ways to expand his business beyond his hometown, Arlington Heights, Illinois.

His quest takes him to California where he gets to experience one of the better walk-in restaurants. This was the ‘original’ McDonald’s which was owned by the Mac brothers — Maurice Mac and Richard ‘Dick’ McDonald. After being treated to a kitchen tour by the brothers, Ray smells a huge business potential (pun intended) and advises both brothers to franchise the business.

The brothers are hesitant; citing previous failed attempts at franchising. But Ray is not taking any of that. He insists. He finally convinces the brothers to lead their franchising efforts.

And after an unfruitful attempt at franchising to high-class investors, Ray decides to franchise to middle-class investors. In what seemed like a temporary growth of the business, Ray and the brothers began to struggle financially.

Ray and the brothers were soon put out of their misery as a financial consultant, Harry Sonneborn helps in providing real estate support to the franchises. Ray is keen on taking over the business and offers both brothers a blank check.

They agree on a price of $2.7 million one-time payment with an annual 1% royalty. But Ray pays them off without the royalty and takes full responsibility for the business.

The Founder teaches the act of persistence and how to get it right. It also highlights the importance of pivoting when things aren’t working out well in a business.

5. The Pursuit of Happyness

Notice the ‘y’ in place of ‘i’ in the heading? That was done intentionally by the movie authors. The Pursuit of Happyness is a story of a young San Francisco salesman, Chris Gardner, played by Will Smith.

Gardner is worried about his financial condition and develops a medical device that he believed to be a better alternative to the X-ray. Gardner stumbles on the manager for Dean Witter Reynolds, Jay Twistle while trying to sell his scanners. He impresses the manager by solving a Rubik quiz while in a taxi. Gardner’s efforts in selling his scanners prove futile.

His wife is running out of patience and leaves to work at her sister’s boyfriend’s restaurant in New York. Gardner’s problems are compounded after he and his son were evicted from their home.

He struggles to get his son (Jaden Smith) through school while trying to get his finances back on track. His relationship with Jay Twistle will then qualify him for an unpaid intern position. Against all odds, Gardner impresses in the interview and earns one of the 20 available positions of an unpaid intern.

Not still satisfied with his living conditions and in pursuit of happiness, Gardner decides to go against all odds; doing the extraordinary. Gardner defies protocol, going against the grain which then earns him a seat as one of the paid stock brokers. He will then go on to establish his own multimillion-dollar brokerage company.

Top 10 Business Ideas for Students in Nigeria – To Make Money Easily

Are you a student in Nigeria but looking for a (legit) way to make money without any alteration to your academic life?

Let’s talk about these business ideas for students in Nigeria and from these businesses, I’m sure one out of them is going to meet your interest.

Students in Nigeria and some parts of the world need finances to power their academics or take care of their general upkeep. But having to combine academics and work may yield unfavorable results on both ends.

Bearing this in mind, it’s important I share some easy but also profitable businesses that will help you as a student make some money.

If you’re interested in making money while in school, join me as we take a look at the following profitable business ideas.

Ten (10) Business Ideas for Students in Nigeria

1. Organizing Academic Tutorials

Before you call me out that tutorials aren’t a form of business, hear me out. Truth is, there are lots of businesses out there for students to engage in. But sometimes, these businesses, though highly rewarding, tend to make students lose track of their primary goal.

But that’s not my aim with this post.

This is made up of less distracting business ideas for students in Nigeria. Ideas that are easy and do not need to be present 24/7 to make some money. And this is where organizing academic tutorials come in.

Now, if you’re well versed in a particular course or subject, or even a topic, this could fetch you some money. You can do this for course/level mates and other students in the institution.

Sometimes, you can be organizing tutorials for JAMB, Post UTME and Direct Entry students.

Are you thinking of location? Well, you can find a good spot in your school or outside the school. And also, if you have the tools, you can run this tutorial service online.

I don’t know how you will charge them, but I’ve met someone who charges N2,000 per hour regardless of how many students. And some people might charge like N5,000 per month.

You just need to experiment with what will work better for you.

The higher the number of students, the more money you stand to make. Only do this when sure of yourself about that particular field. Students attending your tutorial classes expect to get value for their money.

If you can’t offer that, then you’ll have to watch them trickle out of your classes.

Give them value, and in return, they’ll give you money!

2. Catering Service (Soft drinks, Snacks, small chops, and foodstuffs)

Wait, I’m not saying catering is an ideal business ideal for students in Nigeria, as this will take your nearly 80% time if you want to make it big.

Here, catering services for students like you, isn’t about opening a store or getting a business location. The catering service I suggest here is much of a small scale service.

Students are either busy, stressed out, or just don’t know how to cook. All students fall into any of these three as such resort to junk food or fast food.

You can take that upon yourself to provide these food materials. Items such as small chops, snacks, and soft drinks are some of the better options to start with.

You can start making sales right from your house. You’ll just need to create awareness to your neighbors and fellow students.

Since the world is now digital, you can make this known by sharing it on your social profile to reach more people.

A good thing about this business is that it isn’t capital intensive. It’s easy to set up, plus you don’t need to do it 24/7. You’ll have some time to spend with your books.

Is it easy, of course, it is. Even if you’re not the best chef who makes those lovely doughnuts, you can buy in bulk and retail to make some money. Same applies to soft drinks as well.

You can hire a sales girl to stay in your “joint” on your behalf while you face your studies and come back when you’re done at noon. Hiring a (trusted) sales girl will really help your business and simplify your life.

3. Clothing

We all love clothes. It’s one of the necessities of life. Students want to look trendy and you can help them do that. As a student, you can start making money with the clothes retail business.

No, I’m not saying you should go out there and buy a whole big chunk of clothes. Don’t do that. Instead, you buy in smaller chunks then retail at an inexpensive price. The best part about this business is that you don’t need to engage in it 24/7.

This means you still get more time to look at your books and attend classes.

Just like Jumia and Konga, you can start taking orders from your social media profile. It’s pretty easy once you’ve got a hold of social media.

Just gets lots of friends to follow you if you haven’t done that already. Then you can go ahead and start sampling your wares on your social profiles.

Once an order is received, both parties will agree on a delivery pattern. And as students, they might understand when delivery isn’t swift. With time, you can expand your business to non-students and even across the country.

4. Makeup, Decorations, Hairdressing, Barbing & Event planning

Just like clothing, looking good is one of the underrated necessities of life. Because as you must have heard from the cliché phrase, how you are dressed is how you’ll be addressed. They work in tandem with each other — clothes and makeup.

You don’t have to do this daily. Even if you do, you could do this in the evenings and make some good money. But one thing is guaranteed. Your weekend won’t be for resting as is the tradition to get a new haircut (I just did), plait a new hair, or have our events on weekends.

But you can still make good money every weekend once you know and master your craft. These skills take some time to get good at them. If you can put in the time in learning, then earning money from it isn’t far-fetched. Also, consider a good location when starting. It’s everything.

A good location will in most cases, determine how well your business performs. And we all want our businesses to perform pretty well.

5. Dropshipping

I still think dropshipping is underrated in this part of the world. It’s a viable business idea if you look at it. From the few who’re already doing dropshipping, they’ve got no regrets whatsoever.

As a student, this is the ideal business for you. All you just need is the capital to finance it at first which isn’t that big.

You don’t need a physical space to conduct your business. You don’t even need to handle your wares physically. Since it’s slowly becoming a virtual world, you just need a virtual space.

Why is this business ideal?

First things first, it’s scalable and can reach millions of people around the world, unlike your physical space where you’re limited to those around your vicinity or social circle. Also, the business of dropshipping is portable. You can run this business from anywhere.

If you’re thinking of getting started, we’ve got a whole lot of posts on dropshipping. Check the recommended articles below;

6. Start a POS Business

POS Business is very hot in the country and tapping into it now will be an advantage to your pocket.

As a student, you don’t really need to spend your 24/7 in the kiosk just to make sales, you can as well hire an attendant to handle it for you.

You may want to ask;

How can I start POS Business in Nigeria?

Well, I got you covered in one of my previous blog posts, kindly check the quoted link below:

How to Start POS Business in Nigeria

7. Become a Real Estate agent for students

I have a friend who’s a student and in real estate business. But not that big real agent you’re thinking of, here is how it works;

  • You look for new and vacant hostels in school area
  • You get in touch with the caretaker or the owner
  • You strike a deal to help the caretaker or owner find students who need hostel
  • You take commission on each student
  • That’s all.

But hey, real estate business is truly a profitable business idea for students in Nigeria but it requires “dedication” a lot.

You will need to trek a lot in search of hostels without an agent, speak with the caretaker and again look for students who need a hostel, show them the house and repeat every time and then.

If that’s what you can do, the two links below will help you become a successful person in this business;

8. Freelancing and Drop servicing

This should be my number one before all these profitable business ideas for students in Nigeria but here we are!

Freelancing as business is simply working (selling your skills) remotely to those who need it and in returns, you make money.

Before you can become a freelancer, you need to have a skill you’re really good at.

Check here for the hot-selling Digital skills you can learn.

And just in case you don’t have any skill but still want to make money as a freelancer, then you should start “drop servicing” business.

Drop servicing and freelancing are the best business ideas for students in Nigeria, because they’re not capital intensive, no location barrier, you determine how much you want to earn and how, when and where you want to work.

Here is how to start drop servicing business as a beginner.

9. MC and DJ Services

If you are good at anchoring an event or ceremony, or you can DJ either with deck or Virtual DJ, then you can make money from that as a student.

Also, these businesses will not disturb your academic as MC and DJ job gigs is usually available on weekends. SO, you have the rest of the week to study.

You don’t really need to buy anything as an MC than to work on your humors (i.e. Be funny enough to catch audience attention) and public speaking skill.

As a DJ, you need to have a laptop even if you can’t afford a deck yet. Also know the right songs to play at a particular ceremony.

10. FOREX and Cryptocurrency

This is not a financial advise!

I’m sure you’ve heard about FOREX and cryptocurrency before now. Well, it’s one of the lucrative business ideas you can venture into.

NOTE that FOREX and Crypto trading is very risky, you can loose lot of money and on the other hand, earn lot of profit if your analysis is correct.

I will never advise you to venture into FOREX trading as a beginner, you need to learn the nitty-gritty of how it works and how to trade it.

In the meanwhile, you can invest and make money  in cryptocurrency without trading it. Yes, it is possible. If you will like to know how, check this blog post on 8 ways to make money with cryptocurrency.

Again, don’t put your money in FOREX now until you know how it works!

Conclusion: Best Business Ideas for Students in Nigeria?

That wraps it for us on this post. You’ve seen some of the easy but profitable business ideas for students in Nigeria that can fetch you some bucks.
