Nigerians Top List of Drug Traffickers In India For Five Years (2012 – 2017)

In Navi Mumbai in India, Nigeria Citizens has been at the peak of top criminals who were arraigned for drug trafficking for the past five years.
In accordance to the sources from the anti-narcotic cell of Navi Mumbai police, it was reported that total number of 66 narcotic related cases were registered between 2012 and April, 2017 this year.

Nigerian citizens were reportedly to be involved in 14 of these cases, the Navi Mumbai in Police officers said.

Nigeria Newspaper Company, The PUNCH also reported that in 2012, India arrested 14 drug traffickers in which Nigerians citizens were 13 and Ghanaian citizen took the 1.

Recently last week In Kopar Khairane, the police also arrested a Nigerian on the course of having the intention to sell mephedrone rock and powder.

The deputy commissioner of Special police in Navi Mumbai, Tushar Doshi, said:

    “When it comes to drug smuggling by foreign nationals, by and large all the criminals are from Africa in general and from Nigeria in particular. The number of foreign nationals including those from Africa has also increased in the city over the past two years.”

The Police also reported that these gang of Nigerian citizens also cooperates and work in union to perform felonious activities in Mumbai, Delhi and Pune.
They also added that whenever they wanted to arrest or interrogate the defaulters they have caught, they can’t get to the truth and baseline with them because of Language barriers which leads to communication limitations between the two parties.

The police sub-inspector from the anti-narcotic cell, Amit Shellar also added that most of the Nigeria citizens arrested for drug trafficking had come to India on a business visa. He said apart from drug trafficking, several Nigerians were also arrested for cyber scamming, credit card and debit card frauds, physical thefts and other things.
