Former Minister of Petroleum, Allison-Madueke Forfeited Her $37.5 million Property At Banana Island in Lagos State Following Order by Federal High Court


The Nigeria's Former minister of petroleum, Allison-Madueke Diezani has been ordered by a high court siting in Lagos State to forfeit her property at Banana Island in Lagos State which cost the whooping sum of $37.5 million.



The PUNCH newspaper reported that the federal high court also ordered that the sum of $2,740,197.96 and N84,537,840.70 which she realised as rents on the Banana Island property should also be forfeited.

According to Punch, the court also ordered that $2,740,197.96 and N84,537,840.70 realised as rents on the property also be forfeited.
Earlier this month, the court had ordered that the former minister's Banana Island property and the sum of money aforementioned above should be seized.

The lawyer representing the face of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Lawyer Anselem Ozioko told the federal high court that despite the anti-graft agency's efforts to serve the second and the third respondents (Afamefuna Nwokedi, and a company, Rusimpex Limited) of the case personally, they didn't make any attempt to appear before the judge at the federal high court in order to contest the forfeiture order.

Anselem Ozioko said the respondents willingly wish not to show up at the court:
    “In summary, it appears as if they are not willing to contest this application."

The judge presiding over the case, Justice Chuka Obiozo Ordered the forfeiture, pronouncing that:
    “In the face of the publication, which I find in Exhibit B of the affidavit of compliance before me, and there being no responses from any interested party, I have no other option but to grant the orders as prayed.”
